Re: OR/WA mamas or parents?
Contact your local parish and see if they have a mom's group or can give you contact info to some local families. Also, you can start attending Mass and meet some families, even if you haven't gone through RCIA. You just can't receive Communion yet. I hope you are able to find some lovely Catholic families in your area!

Re: OR/WA mamas or parents?
I'm moving to the area this summer, and I have family in the area though they aren't Catholic. Feel free to PM me - I could use a friend too

Welcome to Oregon! (Or were you already an Oregonian, but just stranded in Portland? )
Our parish has a "Seasons of Joy" series, where the women of all ages get together once a month on a Sunday afternoon and discuss topics. Call your parish office and the parishes near you to see if they have anything similar, or anything that might fit the bill.
Also, consider that if no such thing exists in your parish, you are still probably not alone. Sometimes, we are given a strong desire in order to give us the impetus to fill a larger need than our own. You might place a poll in your parish bulletin, asking that mothers with children in "X" age group contact you for brainstorming get-together ideas. If your parish is small, also put this in the bulletin's of any parishes that are in some way "sisters" to yours: for instance, Christ the King and St. John in Milwaukie commonly combine youth activities.
What might such a group do? Well, go to fullhousemom.com; it is a group of parents of multiples that is based in Portland. You will get all kinds of ideas concerning what a bunch of busy like-minded moms can do for each other.
Good luck!
