Exercise Support Group--week of March 18th!
Hi everyone...happy Sunday. Didn't see a thread yet from you Michael, so hope it's ok that I started a new one for the week.
I am taking a day of rest today. I did a lot of back work yesterday, following this strength training program I bought, and I really feel rather faitgued today. A good tired, not injured...just 'spent.' Ya know?
I will be traveling on business next Sunday for a few days, my kids are coming with me too, to check out their potential new schools in Florida, etc...and I'm hoping to replace my current workouts with walking around the hotel. Unfortunately, this hotel doesn't have a fitness room. It's a very nice hotel..I was surprised. Oh well...I'll make the most of it by working out HARD this week, and then in the evenings, walking with my kids around the hotel. once I arrive next weekend. I can still do ab work and such in the room, and they do have a pool. Has anyone traveled on a plane with weights/dumbbells? Are there restrictions for traveling with free weights?
Have a good day everyone...focus focus focus.
HTH!
Sharon

Re: Exercise Support Group--week of March 18th!
Hi, Sharon. I'm excited that you started this new thread. After all, you started this whole thing. I was just holding it together while you were . . . uh . . . preoccupied.
I was planning on running this morning, but my middle daughter spent the night here last night, and when she spends the night here, she sleeps in the same room with the treadmill, and she sleeps late. So i could run this morning. However, I'm going to set an aggressive goal for the week: 12 miles. Don't let me slack off.
Sharon, I travel a lot for work, but I've never tried to take free weights on a flight. I know you could take them in your checked luggage, and I'm pretty sure you can take the in your carry on luggage. You can find all the rules about flying here.

OK - my week of rest is over. My chiropractor told me to take this past week off so I am ready to attack again.
Sharon, I know what you mean about feeling spent. Give yourself a day off without the guilt.
OK - Michael, in tkdnick's absence, I'll kick your butt and keep it moving.

Re: Exercise Support Group--week of March 18th!
I got in my 2 mile run this morning on the treadmill. I was going to try to go further, but then got a phone call from one of my A/V Techs at church, so I figured I better deal with the situation.
Anyway, hopefully, I can run more tomorrow.

Re: Exercise Support Group--week of March 18th!
i like jrabs' fire!
Michael..you look like you are back to consistency. Great! That's the key to anything in life when you think about it. It's not enough to just do ANYTHING for a few days, then quit...then come back to it. I often think, what kind of mom would I be if I were like that?
So, I've been trying to be consistent. The first week is the hardest...now I feel I'm back into the swing...and my workouts are more productive. I'm getting faster...today, I did my spinning video...6 miles in 24 minutes...I was happy about that. He always throws in 'hill' intervals, so you put the bike on high tension, but I felt like I could push harder today. I then did strength training, and ab crunches.
These ab crunches were kinda cool--try this in your routine some time...you criss cross your ankles, one over the other, and pull up, with your hands behind your head, then 'sit up' as you pull up your legs at the same time. feel the burn

I always had a hard time doing crunches with my hands behind my head. It ended up hurting my neck. Then I had a trainer tell me that I was pulling up on my head too hard, and causing stress on my neck. They suggested putting my hands behind my neck, and made a huge difference. Do you experience any neck pain after doing this, Sharon?

yes...when placed directly behind it. i try to place my hands like halfway between my neck and head...i've also seen trainers teach to criss cross your arms across your chest, but that hurts my neck worse! lol
i just finished my workout...did the eliptical...around 2 1/2 miles today...moderate to fast pace, but shorter intervals of intense bursts. today was a moderate day, since yesterday was pretty intense...tomorrow, i think i will do strength training, following my program...and i might skip cardio. i have decided that 5 straight days with cardio tends to burn me out....so maybe splitting it up with a day off mid week, then an off day also on the weekend, might be better.
hey michael--i called the hotel and they DO have a fitness center...so i won't have to skip my workouts! i would have just walked around the hotel...but now i can do the eliptical and bike if they have them available.
also...my foot is feeling much better today--hardly any pain. that cortisone really helped! have a nice night everyone...keep up your hard work--it's so worth it!!!

Sharon, that's good news. When I stay at a hotel that doesn't have a fitness center, I just go running outside. In fact, sometimes I go running outside even if the DO have a fitness center. The only exception is when the weather doesn't cooperate.
I ran 2 more miles on the treadmill this morning. I slept late, and almost skipped it. Then I remembered my goal of 12 miles this week. I can't afford to skip any days. So pushed myself, and I'm so glad I did. It really helped.

Re: Exercise Support Group--week of March 18th!
Well, I managed 18+ miles over the past 2 days. I am hoping for a 40+ mile week again.

Hoping? I don't think so, Kathy! We don't hope for success, we make it happen. Now get moving!
(Oops, was that jrabs job? )
Well, I ran 2 more miles this morning, so I'm halfway to my goal of 12 miles for the week. I was going to try for 3 miles, but I got bored. Since I lost my headphones back on November, it's just me and the treadmill.

Re: Exercise Support Group--week of March 18th!
hey ppl--hope everyone's well today.
I did my spinning video tonight--it was great. Went for about 6 miles again...intervals, and tempo 'work' as he says. Then, followed my strength training routine--arm workout and abs.
Feels nice to be back with you all---instead of just lurking.
