Private revelation
Concerning the March 30, 2007 show on private revelation: on the one hand you rightly communicate the Church's position on Bayside, but then your guest implied that the Church had still not made a decision on Medjugorje. For all the appartitions which you mentioned thereafter you rightly said that the local diocese studied and made the determination that Bayside and the one in the twin cities were not of God. The criteria of obedience to Church authority and contradiction of Chuch teaching were rightly cited for those examples.
What about Medjugorje? You carely avoided citing it for being condemned by successive local ordinaries and for flagrant disobedience not only to sucessive bishops of Mostar, but also to the Pope and his Primacy. Are you being bribed to not say anything negative about it and to hide the truth about the hoax that is Medjugorje?
What about City of God by Agreda? It also was condemned and placed on the Forbidden List of books by the Church. You failed to inform the listeners of this.
You have a responsibilty to tell the truth and not hide important information which could keep souls from being led astray by following such false apparitions.

Re: Private revelation
Hi, please 'splain something to me. Who is being addressed in the preceding post?
As a lifelong Catholic, I have been confused by private revelations.
Apparently I don't have to believe in them, so I don't. Is there anybody else out there like me?
I just figure if the BVM appeared to the three kids at Fatima, so much the good for them.
I'm disinclined to believe in Lourdes, Fatima, Medjugorje, etc.
If I need THOSE over and above what I know through public revelation (the Bible), then my faith is pretty weak. I just don't feel that I need those props for my faith.
If Mary wants to give me a message, I'm here 24/7, ok? And, I say that not to be blasphemous or irreverent.
I get claustrophobic about people trying to shove all those private messages at me, when they barely if at all say anything more than is said in scripture. you know what I mean? It's this: people are trying to turn private revelation into public revelation. And, you know that they are doing this. That's what bugs me.
If such and such person got a private revelation, it's for them.
Praying for the conversion of Russia is a bit politically incorrect right now. They don't even want to let the Pope visit the country. The collapse of the Soviet regime was not a conversion of Russia, as far as I can tell. Why aren't we praying intensely for the conversion of the Sudan or Saudi Arabia or China?
I read a book on the Message of Medjugorje and the message was to "go to Jesus." Well, OK, I'm theeeerrrrreee, thank God.

Re: Private revelation
don't know who OP is addressing, presumably the producers of a CA radio show that mentioned Bayside, an unapproved alleged private revelation. OP seem upset that this program did not go off topic and discuss other alleged apparitions. Why, can't say, and OP does not say why, and is not likely to come back anyhow to enlighten us. apparently OP is peeved that the host of the show did not whack the guest over the head with a rosary because they did not say what OP expected.

I like to look at it as the one place it's "okay" to be a cafeteria Catholic "Oh, yeah, that St. Faustina bit was pretty awesome, I'm going to go ahead and take that message to heart" or, "Naw, those LaSalatte kids weren't my cup of tea, off with you!" The great thing is, if it's approved, that means there's nothing in the content of the messages that are counter to church teachings, or add to the public deposit of faith. So you really CAN take them or leave them.
If reading about the Divine Mercy revelations helps me gain a greater appreciation of the Infinate nature of Our Lord's Mercy, brilliant! But is that the first place I would send someone who also needed help with this issue? Ummm...no.
If a private revelation helps someone strengthen their faith, then I don't think that's a bad thing at all. However, it shouldn't the the foundation OF their faith. Not everyone uses them as "props" for their faith; some of us see them like a "performance enhancer"- but a legal one.
Cheers,
Cari

Re: Private revelation
I thought this was a forum to address Catholic Answers radio show topics. Is it not? What other 'radio ' does this thread refer to?
Go to the archives and listen.
I can't believe some of the comments. So uncharitable and judgemental!! By the way use proper English. What is an OP?
You all don't seem to understand the topic of private revelations at all. Some are deemed worthy of belief by the Church and yes, one doesn't have to believe in them even then. But it is the ones deemed by the Church to have no supernatural origin or worse is what was given inconsistent treatment on the radio show. The Church's standards were not appiled by the guest to Medjugorje for some reason.
I guess you don't care for truth. I do. The fact is that many leave the Church to follow some unapproved apparition. These things are a danger to souls. I suppose that is unimportant to you all, but I think it is.

I have read all of the Bayside massages, they are 100% Catholic
if they come the Devil, then the Devil is a imbecile. Just remember
that at one time the Divine Mercy massages were Condemned too.

It's an abbreviation for Original Poster. That would be refering to you, in this case.

Re: Private revelation
Bayside is not of God. Veronica Leuken contradictied the teaching of the Church by claiming that test-tube babies have no soul.
Jimmy Akin and his guest addressed Bayside directly on the show. So listen to it. Also contact the Archdiocese of Newark, NJ. They will give you the lowdown on it.
Once a woman noticed the St. Benedict medal I was wearing and she told how Veronica L. told everyone to wear one. The woman's marriage failed as a result of her husband following Bayside. She then remarried and left the Church and attended a fundamentalist, evangelical church.

Re: Private revelation
I looked at one of the brochures. Others who believed in it told me these things. Jimmy Akin mentioned it too.
Have you read Cardinal Ratzinger's 1987 document from the the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, "An Instruction on Respect for Human Life in Its Origin and the the Dignity of Procreation:Replies to Certain Questions of the Day"? Section 5 says, "Human embryos obtained in vitro are human beings and subjects with rights: their dignity and right to life must be respected from the first moment of their existence."
