Exercise support thread for week of 4/8!
Happy Easter, everyone! Alleluia, He is Risen.
It's time to set goals for the coming week. I'm going to take today off, but push myself for the rest of the week. My goal is to run 12 miles this week. Yippeee!!

Re: Exercise support thread for week of 4/8!
Happy Easter to you too Michael.
I have totally slacked on my eating habits this last week. I'm not feeling much like exercising at the moment, but my goal is 2 instense workouts and 3 moderate workouts this week.

Re: Exercise support thread for week of 4/8!
We had over 20 people at our house yesterday, and my wife and I worked ourselves to the bone all day. I was way too exhausted to get up and run this morning, so I skipped it.
I guess I'll have to add a mile on to my run two days this week in order to reach my goal.

Re: Exercise support thread for week of 4/8!
Question for the fitness folks:
I have a daily routine that includes some cardio as well as 60 min of martial arts.
The past 6-8 months I have been doing much more walking, instead of jogging.
I don't know if its cuz I am getting older, but I am really starting to dislike running, but really enjoy walking & kung fu.
Do you folks thinks its just as benaficial to walk say 3 miles everyday as opposed to jogging 3 miles every other day? This on top of a semi-strenous kf routine.

I've read a lot that says that walking is just as good, if not better, than running. Especially if you're going to walk every day as opposed to jog every other day. Just make sure it's a brisk walk, not a leisurely one.
Can't go wrong with martial arts for exercise.

First it was tkd to kung fu.
Now its running to walking.
I am starting to feel old LOL.
I guess the main thing is that I am doing something and rarely blow off walking as oposed to running.

Ya know, I never believed that until I started doing it. I've lost 26 lbs in 9 weeks with that philosophy. Feel free to hang with us and share your exercise stories and get encouragement.

You know, I just may do that. This past winter has wrecked havoc on me. I have a new born son that was born in Jan and on top of not getting much sleep, my excercise routine has been sporatic the last 3 months.
I am 10 pounds heavier then I was before X-Mas. So heres a story of what can happen when you stray from your routine.
Many mornings I have not wanted to leave the house to run or walk incase the baby woke up (my wife takes first shift). So I been able to stick to the kung fu more then the cardio. I really think that if I did'nt atleast have this (kf routne) I would be 15 maybe 20 pounds heavier.
The baby is now getting up only once per night, so I will be able to get back to walking everyday. I hope the pounds come off as easy as they went on.

welcome franks...actually, 'they' say that jogging, as we get older, can be quite jarring for our joints, therefore not as healthy as brisk walking. i have always felt more of a charge from jogging, however, and with my foot problem over the past few months, i have been using the eliptical machine to get the same bang for my buck, so to speak. try that if you are able...and see if you like that. i think that it's cool you do martial arts...i have always wanted to try something like that, and my kids are excited to try it when we move to florida soon.
i did my spinning video last night....about 25 minutes. then, i did about 30 minutes of abs, and arm strength training. it was pretty good...overall. tonight--i'm set for the eliptical...hoping to do about 2-3 miles...we shall see!
nice to see everyone...hope you all had a joyous Easter!

Re: Exercise support thread for week of 4/8!
oops...almost forgot...my goals for the week are:
1) stick with my strength routine...4 days this week (abs 5 days)
2) do 3 days of eliptical
3) do 2 or 3 days of spinning...up my distance by 2 miles, hopefully!
good luck everyone...
steady and consistent wins the race.

I've been offline since yesterday morning. But I did manage to run 2 miles this morning.
fransv, welcome to the group. It's great to have you here. This is a great place to get support.

Got in a light workout Monday and an intense workout yesterday. Going to the gym for weights tonight (maybe cardio too depending on time).

Good job, Nick. I love the consistency. That's what inspires me to be consistent.
I ran two more miles on the treadmill this morning. I was going to try for 3 miles, but just couldn't make it.

Re: Exercise support thread for week of 4/8!
It occured to me last night that at 36 years old I am not getting too old to keep running and doing tkd. I have just had a rough last six months and have been taking the path of least resistance. Also getting a bit lazy.
This morning I tried to run, but a nasty snow/rain storm made me cut the run very short.
I then did one hour of tkd, the more strenous of the 2 styles I have picked up in the last 10 years.
I am going to go back to running every other day plus my forms and full martial arts workout the other days.
Ofcourse if this freezing rain and snow don't let up by morning its going to have to all tkd for a day or so.
