At the Last Supper, Jesus said "Do this in remembrance of me." That is a pretty specific command. "Do this". He didn't just say "remember me". He told us exactly how to celebrate His passion, death and resurrection for the redemption of the world.

The greatest worship you can give to God is to participate at the Eucharistic sacrifice in which the Sacrifice of Christ is re-presented in an unbloddy manner and is offered to the Father for adoration, thanksgiving, reparation and petition. While other forms of worship are pleasing to God as well, this is worship par excellance and that most pleasing to Him.

When you are baptized, you are baptized into the Body of Christ, the Church.

It is important to worship with others members of the church - not as an isolated member cut off from the rest of the body.

And it is scriptural:

Hebrews 10:25
Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

Hope this helps.

In the New Testament it says, "Do not forsake the gathering of yourselves together."
Pretty simple...

It is a sad reflection on us Catholics that the Church has found it necessary to make a disciplinary rule that everyone must attend Mass on Sundays. It should be a given that people would go. However experience has shown that unless you have that rule attendance withers, and with it everything else that the Church does.

Wouldn't it be better if the Church had to say, "OK now, ya'll have to limit your Masses to two a day." ?

You sound like me. I cringe when I hear "Holy Day of Obligation". I much prefer going to Mass because I "Love To" rather than I "Have to".

God deserves public worship, not just private worship.

Maybe I'm looking at this in the wrong mindset. Is the question why do we go to Mass or do you think you can only worship at Church? I do both, so if it's why can't I worship outside of Mass, you certainly can, I do almost every hour of every day. I'm not restricted to worship only at Mass. Others have given why we go to Mass.

Tom,
The question is why do I have to go to Mass or Church service when I can worship God on my own. It appears easy but the people Im addressing the question about aren't sold on the authenticity of the Bible either... Its basically, why can't I thank God daily and be a nice person.

I'd tell them that going to Mass was how Jesus set it up almost 2,000 years ago, it's history. Why wouldn't a Christian not do as Jesus established? they think their way is better? Take it up wiht the boss... LOL

There are two purposes of the liturgy: the glorification of God and the sanctification of man. First, it is necessary not only to worship God but to worship him in the way in which he wants to be worshiped. Second, a Christian needs the sacraments to remain in the state of grace.
