Court Abortion Verdict Raises Religion Question
The Supreme Court made history Wednesday, in more ways than one
The headline news was that, by upholding the federal Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act, the court put a limit on a particular abortion procedure for the first time since it established a woman's right to terminate a pregnancy, under Roe v. Wade in 1973.
The decision was also notable for the way the nine justices split on the question -- 5-4, with the Court's five Catholic justices forming the majority.
