Exercise support group--week of 4/22!
I know Sharon's busy packing, so I'll get us started for the new week. It's time to set our workout goals for the week. I'm taking today off, and will be working in San Diego all this week, so I should have the time to run 12 miles this week, so that's my goal.

My goal is a 40 + mile week. I plan to start today in a few minutes, grab my walkman and head off in the sun!

Re: Exercise support group--week of 4/22!
it's sunny for a change here, too...kathy.
Well...I decided to reaaaalllly stretch my foot...I sooo wanted to enjoy the outdoors today, and get my workout in. I had the bike planned...spinning...etc...but, jogged instead. I started off with a brisk warm up walk...and then, went for it--stupid foot problem and all! And I feel really good. Has anyone ever heard of Chi Running? It's a great book that teaches you how to keep the pressure off of your feet/ankles, and hold your upper body more stable, etc...so you don't hurt your joints. I didn't like it in the past, but in the past I didn't have plantar fascitis...so, today, I gave it a try again, and it worked great. I went about 2 miles...throwing 2 minutes fast paced jogging sessions in with brisk walking...and then 5 minutes fast paced...with brisk walking. Just kept alternating. It was wonder-bah! ha Nice to feel the breeze in my hair....feel the sun. Something that you just can't get from an indoor workout. If my foot weren't such a pain right now--I would loooove to commit to a charity run or something...I absolutely love jogging/running.
Oh, and my family and I didn't pack today...we should have, but just wanted to enjoy some time together outside.
I techincally only have about 4 weekends left, and then I'm taking several days off at the end of May to finish up...so, hopefully, we'll get er done.
happy Sunday, all...looking forward to seeing your workouts this week.

Well I finished up the day with just under 8 miles in just under 2 hours. Pretty good for an old broad huh??

Kathy, that's awesome for a Sunday! you might break 50 miles this week!
Sharon, I've heard of Chi running, but never really looked into it. Is it hard to learn?

not hard at all....but, it just takes stepping out of your comfort zone. (no pun intended ) We tend to lean forward when running...tend to use our arms too much...this teaches you a technique where you're not straining as much. You won't be at a 90 degree angle, but it's hard to explain...you run with more ease, I'd have to say. jogging/running is straining...even if you're a marathon runner...so it helps you go longer distances, without feeling that strain.
give it a try.

Re: Exercise support group--week of 4/22!
have you ever seen Olympic track runners? Ever notice how they don't move their heads? Their heads just remain steady....not bouncing, not jarring. Really, if you watch them closely, only their legs are doing most of the work. It reminds me of Chi Running, to a degree.

I'm going for 2 intense workouts and 3 moderate workouts this week. Got 1 intense workout down yesterday.

Way to go Nick. It's nice to have one down already. Start off your week on a good positive step.

Yep that is always a great motivator.
I am heading to Florida in 2 weeks to visit a friend who just informed me she has cancer. I have to intensify my training for the next 2 weeks.
Weights 3 days a week and aerobic 6 days. No excuses will do - except the ones I want to let pass.

Re: Exercise support group--week of 4/22!
Ok, so I am finally going to commit to Exercise. I quit smoking a year ago and have used food as a substitute and did not move much.
Soooooooo, starting walking yesterday. Did 2 miles - felt like 5 ! But I am determined to do these each morning.

OK - Edie. You're IN now. That is an incredible accomplishment for your first time out.
How do you feel today? Try and remain consistent in your schedule. You will see those lbs melt away. I am proud of you.
