Default Be a CAF Greeter (new joinable group)

In recent weeks we have seen daily registrations here at CAF jump, often climbing above 200 new members per day.

Would you like to help welcome our newest members?
If so, you can be one of our CAF Greeters!

All we ask is that you say "Hello" to a new member who has posted in the Meet & Greet threads here in the Back Fence forum (and that you do so at least once per week).

Here are the steps you need to take to become a CAF Greeter

Step 1: To Join the Greeters

Click Profile in the forums menu at the top of the page
Click Group Memberships in the side column block ("Networking") of your profile
Select the Join Group radio button for the Greeters group
Click Join Group button at the bottom of the list to submit your request.

Once your request is approved, voila! You are a CAF Greeter!

Step 2: To display the Greeters title

Go to Profile > Group Memberships again and find the box labeled:
"You may choose to be identified as a member of the following groups"

Find the "Greeters" line and tick the circle to the right of that box labeled "Identify me as a member of this group."

Click on "Update Display Group"

That's it. You've got the title.

Greeter Group Guidelines
======================
  1. The CAF Greeters group has been formed to provide a bit of focus on a particular forum activity, namely welcoming new members who post in the Meet & Greet threads.
  2. Membership in this group is contingent on your participation in the Meet & Greet threads.
  3. Greeters are expected to help out in the current Meet & Greet thread at least once per week in order to maintain their "Greeter" title.
  4. Occasional gaps in your postings due to travel, vacation, illness and the like are not a problem. We will not be watching Greeter posting rates with a microscope. The intent is to insure that Greeters understand the importance of their continuing participation.
  5. Posts by Greeters in the M&G thread should be warm, welcoming and sincere in nature. Generic "Welcome to CAF"-type messages can actually seem insincere, especially if posted in rapid succession.
  6. Please respond to new members individually. Do not post a "group hello" by using the multi-quote feature. That is, please do not address more than one new member per post.
  7. Should a New Member convey a personal problem or crisis in his M&G post, try and direct him to the appropriate forum where more help is available. That is, do not try and answer his question in the M&G thread. Expressions of sympathy, consolation, and encouragement are certainly acceptable as warranted. Providing links to threads with possible answers may be appropriate.
  8. If a New Member posts on a subject that would be handled better as a new thread, you can use the "Report Post" feature to let the Mods know that this post might be worthy of copying into another forum. Since the mechanics of doing this is time-consuming for the Mods, don't expect it to occur all that often. It is best to save such recommendations for those posts that truly warrant that kind of special attention.

Come on and be a Greeter!

Stop in and say hello in the Meet and Greet thread.

If you've joined the Greeters group and want to know how to add the Greeter title, check out post 1 above.

CLARIFICATION: multiple welcome messages.

It is perfectly acceptable for multiple greeters to welcome the same new member. In fact it is preferred.

Each Greeter brings a different perspective on faith (and the forums) to his posts. While it is obviously important that each new member be welcomed individually, it is also important that a Greeter should not refrain from posting a message simply because someone else has already greeted the new member. This is particularly true if the new member has asked a question about forum operation or the like. Guiding him to the right forum is desired.

OK will start double posting again. I stopped this recently, but realize now it is welcomed and encouraged.

Not quite sure what you mean by "double posting", but saying hello to newcomers is a good thing, whether you are first, fifth, or fifteenth.

I guess greet them for the second or third time is more applicable than double posting.
