One of our Priests uses some Latin during weekday masses. He and I spoke at length about Motu Proprio yesterday but otherwise it has not been mentioned. To be honest, I said something to the effect of "aren't you excited that Latin is coming back to the Mass" to this same Priest about a week or so ago and at the time he kind of looked at me like he wasn't quite sure what I was talking about. But our Bishop is out of town - maybe they are waiting until he comes back for guidance?

No, but the dismissal hymn last night was partly in Latin. So, overcome by enthusiasm, I exuberantly expressed to the priest on the way out the door after Mass that it was Motu Proprio Day and we would hopefully become a Latin Mass parish. He seemed smilingly taken aback. Maybe because he's a brand new assignee to the parish and only arrived a few weeks ago?

Today I'm going to the indult Latin Mass downtown. We'll see if anything is mentioned there.

Only by me to the organist. I jokingly asked if the Mass would be in Latin today. Got quite a negative reaction. But what can you expect by someone who refers to God as "she".

No. We have a Tridentine Mass about once a month. the parish priest is on a rota to say it. If you want to hop from parish to parish you can have a Traditional Mass every Sunday in Bradford, but it is not a model of the Church I feel happy with, and I don't have a car either. So I just attend the Tridentine when it happens to be our priest's turn.

Since we are currently fulfilling all that the Pope has requested anyway I don't think there will much on an immediate effect. However I think that most priests are waiting for a lead from their bishop before saying anything about the document. That's fair enough. Even if the reality is that a liberal bishop has been overruled, it is only reasonable to let him save face by welcoming what the Pope has said and setting up a committee to examine the implications.

I just returned home from Mass.

No mention.

I asked Father, "what do you think of the Holy Father's Moto Proprio?"

He said he had not read it but has heard about it.

At the indult Latin Mass in downtown Cleveland, it was a day of celebration and rejoicing ... in Latin, of course!

The priest before the start of Mass made a special announcement that directly after Mass, the Te Deum would be sung, and prayers of thanksgiving for the Motu Proprio offered for Pope Benedict XVI.

The Latin Mass was very well attended today.

With all due respect, now how would a priest from a Novus Ordo or even a bi-ritual parish exactly have addressed the Motu Proprio from the pulpit today, even if the bishop asked him to? That would indeed be tough and, besides, most priests probably figured many of the congregation had already heard about it on the news anyway.

I think, since they just got it yesterday they havent really had enough time to digest it and address it in their homilies, perhaps. But, hopefully they'll address it soon. I was hoping our priest or someone would suggest taking a survey to see if there is a demand at our parish and at what time it would be celebrated on Sundays.

I attend a NO parish and our priest mentioned it because of an email I sent him asking about it. He had not known that there was a Motu Proprio on this and he would have to actually go read it, but at the end of Mass he mentioned that he was excited about this, and that he thought he and only three other priests in our diocese even knew how to celebrate the Tridentine Mass. He said he figured if he found his 1962 missal, he could probably review how to do it and be ready to go in about 10 minutes . I must admit that he sounded excited about this, and I was certainly glad to hear how well he received it.

lucky! haha, i'll go ask our priest, most of the fathers at our parish are pretty old, so they probably remember going to Latin mass when they were little.

I am very lucky indeed! The music at our parish seems to be far from traditional (guitars, piano, H&H, etc.), so I was not sure how Monsignor would feel about this. Praise God he sounded excited .
