Crazy Converts Club meet here!
Welcome all converts and anyone else who would like to join a few of us converts often feel a bit lost so we thought this would be a good place to hang out and chat about anything that's on our minds about the faith or just want to be silly. Please feel free to tell your conversion story as well if you would like!
I am a convert from the more liberal Protestant side. I spent over 11 yrs in the Presbyterian USA Church and grew up and was baptized in the United Methodist Church. I absolutely love my Protestant background and feel it was because of them that my faith deepened and I eventually converted. Because I grew up in a more liberal background, Church and family..It's been more of a struggle excepting certain Church teachings.
My parents and my faith taught me to be accepting of others regardless of their religion. I hold this very dear to my heart. My mother is a Protestant and we are very close. She did not have any real problems with me converting, nor did any of my extended family. My only regret is that I had to leave friends behind in our old Church. I miss them greatly at times but still keep in close contact with a few. They were sad we left but supportive.
My reasons for converting had more to do with a profound sense of spiritual passion and calling that I had for the Catholic faith. Our Lord being present in the Eucharist, the prayers, the mystical beauty pulled me in over anything else. I've never told my conversion story and I wouldn't want to because I don't feel my words could ever perfectly describe the intense calling I experienced.
So let the chatting begin!

Re: Crazy Converts Club meet here!
Yeahhhh! I'm so glad. Thank you for this!
I just did a short rendition of my conversion story on this thread: http://forums.catholic.com/showthrea...42#post2499142
(I've never posted a link here before, hope it comes out right!)
I say short, it looks long, but I could probably write a book as I'm sure we all could!
I hope other converts find us and come on in and join the conversations. We have some wonderful stories to share, and many trials and many blessings that we all can relate to, I'm sure. I hope we can be a blessing and help to each other!

I don't think I did the link properly, you'll have to scroll up a few posts to get the initial post.

You are welcome! And your story was not long at all and beautifully written I might add! And thank you for adding this. I liked what you said about the Marian doctrine "when it was finally explained to you the right way" I know exactly what you mean. It connected for me when a priest during a homily (before I converted) talked about the Holy family. He brought everything together which includes all of us in a way that made complete sense to me. I hope I just made sense

Hi everyone!
I'm a crazy convert too! I'm at work right now, so I don't have time to post my conversion story... I'll try to put it up this evening.
Glad to meet you all!

I gotta tell ya, what really changed my view of Mary and allowed the doctrines to be objectively dealt with by me, was the "Passion of the Christ". And from what I understand, I'm not the only Protestant who was changed on the deepest level by that movie. And I knew 3 months before I went to see it that it was going to be a pivitol event in my life, I was actually scared to go to the theatre!
There were so many things that came together at the same time during that whole period in my life, it amazes me. Each was a critical piece of a big puzzle, and looking at the individual pieces, it might not make sense, but as a whole, well, I was completely overwhelmed and blindsided by God!

Re: Crazy Converts Club meet here!
May an old-timer join, too? As it says in my signature, I entered the Church in 1987--probably about the time most of you were born!
Anyhow, here is my conversion story, although there is plenty I could add to it after being a Catholic for 20 years--as long as I had been a member of the Assemblies of God.

Hi Della dear, I remember you from a different message board. So glad you could join us I shall read your conversion story. Maybe all these stories might give me the courage to write one.
