Default EXERCISE SUPPORT THREAD--week of August 26th!

Is it my turn to start the new thread?

Happy New Week, everyone! It's time to set our goals for the week.

My goal is to run 18 miles, including a 6 mile long run, which I did this morning. I won't be able to run next weekend (Fri - Sun), as I have a big sound job, doing the sound for the SCRC Catholic Renewal Conference in Anaheim. But I'll be getting quite a workout.

Sorry--I was late today starting the thread. But, grazie michael for always jumping in...!

We had family over...ever since we moved to Florida, we're endlessly entertaining...which is actually pretty awesome, but we didn't get to do this much entertaining in PA.

I walked about 3 miles yesterday...nothing today. I had a migraine...grrrr!! I'm going to do the elipical tomorrow...

Any advice on what a good 'starting' weight lifting set would be for my son? We're not getting Bowflex...we might down the road, but right now, he needs to bench, and just do curls...build some bulk for football...any thoughts, men?

YAY...THE STEELERS PLAY TONIGHT...GO STEELERS!

Have a blessed week, everyone.

Hello Sharon and Michael. Hope the weekend was good.

Sharon - how did you manage to walk with a migraine? I stand in awe.....but do hope you are feeling better today. I also feel sick the day after a migraine - stomaches usually - do you get that too?

I did 5 miles at the gym. Today I am hoping to escape at lunch and hit the gym too. Gotta start getting back to the routine. Summer vacation is done.

Still riding the bike. I start my week on Friday, to correspond with my weigh in day.

So, I plan to ride 30 - 35 miles.
And I did 12 on Friday. I will ride again tonight and maybe Wednesday.

I think I will hold off on the leg exercise until I see the doc on Wednesday. That way I can find out from him which ones will help the most. I will also find out Wednesday if I need surgery. He sounded pretty sure last time that this would be it.

Howdy Live....Welcome to CAF and to the exercise forum.

No doubt exercise is a struggle. I too, struggle to get back into a routine.
I think the challenge becomes easier once you are in an established routine.

Maybe scale back your plans to only 15 mins each day? Certainly 15 min is easy to fit in once you get going. It seems so easy to derail exercise plans yet your health and strength are worthwhile to schedule into the day.

Mornin' everybody. Haven't been around much lately, but I think it's time to start posting very regularly here. I have fallen off the diet & exercise plan pretty hard. The last 3-4 days have been better, but still not enough. If y'all don't mind I'll be posting not only exercise, but also calorie totals.

Let's see...goals for the week - 2,200 calories per day plus 4 hard cardio workouts. (No weights for me this week as my hand is still recovering from a brick breaking demo accident)

I'm joining too!

I used to go to the gym 3 times a week and go hiking or swimming at least twice a week.

Now I have a 7mo baby in a house so far away from civilization that I can't go anywhere.

My goal for this week is 20mins of basic home exercising every day. I'll also be thinking of ways to go for a walk with the baby in a stroller (there is ONE road nearby, but there's no sidewalk and big trucks full of marble from the quarry go there - not very pleasant even w/o a baby; I'll try evenings - maybe it's truck-free then?) and then next week I'll put walking among my goals as well!

Any ideas on aerobic exercises for breastfeeding mothers? Not to be too graphic here, but jumping is out of the question. I can't afford a treadmill or exercise bike. Thanks!

What about something like low impact? Or something like "Sweating to the Oldies?" It gets the heart rate up, but doesn't do a lot of jumping. You could just not do the jumping that is there. I would also make sure that I had a good support/exercise bra.

Can you still swim? I don't remember how old babies should be before they go into the water. Six months maybe? That is very low impact, no jumping at all. I used to attend water aerobics. It was great fun and really easy on the joints, so it would be easy on the um, well, you know.

Welcome, paradoxy. It's always great to have new members. I appreciate the opportunity to have more people to keep me accountable.

It sounds like you live in a beautiful area. I'm a runner, so I love to be in beautiful areas where I can run. I live on the side of a mountain, and it's beautiful, but to steep for running, so I have a treadmill.

Have you tried a sports bra? There's a video clip on RunnersWorld.com that discusses the proper selection and fit for a sports bra. (I checked it out for my wife, she doesn't do computers) A good sports bra will give you the stability you need, even while running or jumping.

You and me both! Man - my summer vacation is OVER!!!
Though maybe we both needed a break to smack us in the head and jump start again?

Brick breaking accident? Ohhh Nick - say it aint so! Are you getting better?

You talked of planning long walks - maybe you simply need to scale back to a reasonable one till you get used to the routine and realize that it can fit in your day in the perfect time slot.

I think the problem many make is that they get too ambitious, then fail because the goal was unattainable.

But everyone has 15 min in their day with good planning. Then you add 5 mins when you can. Before you know it you are at 30 min before work - or right after dinner - etc.

YOU CAN do it....now report back. We are here for ya.

Welcome to the exercise thread. I also like the low impact idea.
Some of the exercise tapes are great to use and are low impact.

How about some of your favorite music? Do you have some steps at home you can step to? Or a few pieces of wood you can use as a low rise stepping stool?

I think a dvd or vhs tape is a great option because you can have a few different routines and mix it up - go as long as you can depedning on how your little one is doing.
