Welcome all converts or soon to be converts or reverts! Please join us for fun and sharing of our Catholic faith. Great place to learn, be silly, serious or ask questions. It's not always easy for us converts so we thought this would be a good place to hang out together.

Don't mind if I do!

What's happening tonight in your world? I'm just sitting here, doing my nails, thinking about how in the world am I ever going to feel comfortable around my family about my faith?

My mother is in the other room reading the Time Magazine article about the Mother Teresa letters, and I'm sure Time is not presenting her life of depression and spiritual roller coaster ride in a good or balanced or even Christian light. So my mother will more than likely come away convinced more than ever that the poor Catholic Teresa spent her whole life living a life of empty religious service with no real relationship with Christ.

I understand how she thinks. In the meantime she has left the Time Magazine article on the life and ministry of Billy Graham sitting out for me to read.

I feel like I always have to just stuff my faith under the covers in order to keep peace or avoid confrontations that lead to nothing but hard feelings. And I'm a grown woman! I live alone, but have them on weekends, but still feel this way.

My mother had a bad experience about 15 years ago when she got a job at Catholic Charities and had a really bad, egocentric, harsh boss. He fired her after only 3 days, said she wasn't assertive enough. She was very wounded by that experience and has never liked Catholics since. It is wrong to project that onto all Catholics or the whole Catholic organization, but that is something she seems to never have gotten over. She just mentioned it yesterday when we were talking about my new job coming up.

Such is the life of the convert at times.

You poor thing. Maybe your mother will come around I hate hearing stories about people being wounded by some nasty Catholic and it turned them away from the Church. It should never take only one person but it always does! I'm going to start praying for you mothers conversion.

I'm sorry, share it like, in asking my family if they would be willing to watch it with an open mind.

we have a family friend who was catholic for most of her youth i guess. and then something happened (i am speculating to say that somebody at the church treated her poorly when she became pregnant in high school)
anyways, she turned her back on the church and God. it's really sad, because for the most part she is a really good person. when she was reading the davinci code, she just thought it was great, a eureka moment about the church.
if we could only get thru to people that it is a person that they are angry at, and not the church.

Well, when I say I'm doing my nails, what I mean is, I'm cutting them off! Want to be able to type and do data entry quickly and efficiently come Tuesday! So, if you want me to take clippers to your nails, then sure, I'd be happy to!

I would completely appreciate that.
