Default EXERCISE SUPPORT THREAD -week of 9/9

Good morning, everyone. It's time to set our goals for the new week.

This week, I get back to my normal routine, but I also plan to kick it up a notch. My goal is to run 22 miles (That would be a new personal high), including a 7 mile long run (which would also be a new personal high).

The good news is that I did the long run this morning. I ran 7 miles in 1:05:08. My previous longest run was the 10K (6.2 miles) I ran last month.

Way to go Michael! You are an inspiration. I would like to do 50 in 5 again. Also, I want to do 3 miles on my morning walk. I have managed 2.98 in 50 minutes but have just not gotten the magic 3!

Default EXERCISE SUPPORT THREAD -week of 9/9

My goal is to catch fitness classes on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday mornings. I managed that 2 weeks ago, but couldn't last week due to the holiday and another conflict. Hopefully this week will go smoother...

Gotta keep up with my wife. She's a fitness instructor.

Hey welcome to CAF and to the exercise thread. There are some great inspirational folks here ( as you read in the posts above you).

Michael and Kathy,
wowzer. Good for you. what great goals.

I did not make my goal for last week - got a migraine over the weekend - so I have about 8 miles to make up this week. That makes for a big week for me.

NICE JOB!!!

My goals are 2,200 calories & 5 days of exercise. Yesterday was an intense bike class.

I think I'm gonna have to start making some time to post here on the weekends. I've been falling apart on the weekends lately.

Welcome to the group! The first thing to do is to determine what you want to get out of excercising. For example, weight loss, or muscle toning can be your goals. Based on that, you set up an excercise strategy. Start slow, and build up gradually. And post here often. The support of this group keeps me on target. I couldn't do it without these fine folks.

I added 3 more miles to my weekly total this morning. So I've run 10 miles so far this week.

OK - you're in. Welcome.

Do you live in an area that you can walk outside?

Here are a few suggestions. Start out slow in whatever you decide. If it is walking then maybe 20 min. Keep the goals small and manageable. If not, then you will lose interest and doom yourself from the start. Who needs failure before they even start.

If you want something to help benchmark, then get an inexpensive pedometer and try walking 5000 steps increasing your weekly goal by say 500 steps.

Or you can map out your exact route here:
http://www.gmap-pedometer.com

and try beating that week after week by adding miles.

That must be where I went wrong. I didn't marry someone who could crack the whip with me working out.

I did ok last week. I worked out with my trainer two days, did cardio on two days and stayed under my calorie limit except for Saturday and only went over by 100 calories. It was a short week since I didn't start all of this until Tuesday.

This week my goal is to do my circuit at the gym three days and do cardio on at least 3 of the remaining four days. So far, I did the circuit yesterday and cardio today.

I lost some weight last week but gained inches.

The good news is that my labs came back and my cholesterol is ok so at least I don't have to worry about that.

Hi, I am new too. This is my second week. The YMCA has a 12 week program and I am starting with that. It is designed for the out-of-shape and out-of-practice folk and that is definately me.

Walking is a great start. I got a walk video too so that I can do it even when the weather is bad.

Good luck!!

Thanks for all the tips!!

I thought that I would start tomorrow walking a mile per day... But after months without it...it's gonna rain tomorrow... Thank God for the rain... I'll try 20 minutes of working out with some stretching and stuff.
