Confused
Could you clarify these points for me please. Apologies if answers appear elsewhere, I did do a Search but could not come up with the answers:
- Is a book automatically introduced?
- Can a member introduce a book?
- If so, need that book be approved first and how does one go about obtaining approval.
- Can only one book be under discussion at a time?
- Could a lengthy text or article be discussed rather than a book per se?
God bless all............Barb

Re: Confused
Im not the moderator, but I think we should select some books and then make a poll and vote for one of them, in order to read the next book.
I would recommend this book to be the next one:
TREATISE ON TRUE DEVOTION TO THE BLESSED VIRGIN
by St. Louis de Montfort
It was the favorite book of JP2

As my opening post indicates, I am not too sure of procedures at all.
I'll give it some thought and recommend a book for the poll, although I would be in favour of the Treatise on True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin.........although I must confess I find St. Louis awefully intense.

Apologies I have kept you waiting, Jimmy. As yet I have not given any particular book real consideration. I do have a question, however, is it only books that are discussed? There are some really good, but lengthy, articles by reputable Catholic authorship on the internet.
I will get back to you within the next 48 hrs re a book I would put forward. God's Blessings and His Peace.............Barb

Re: Confused
I'm not sure how the process works either. When I first joined the book club, there was a discussion going on but there hasn't been anything new for a while now.
Maybe we could discuss one of the books written by the Pope?

well basicly the apology of Justin Martyr wasent a book though and we were discussing it. so im not sure I guess we need the moderator to asker this question but d be cool to discuss anything interesting, I dotn think we dosent have to be very strict about this.

Re: Confused
In my opinion, perhaps we should all select here several books, everyone is welcome to recommend books for the upcoming reading, then, we will make a poll with all the members and thus we will decide which book we will read.
That is my opinion, I dont know whether the moderators agree with me. but for know I think that is a good way to get organized.

Hello again Jimmy..............A bit of thought tells me that I am more than happy to discuss whatever may be selected .
Truth and Freedom by Cardinal Ratzinger has appeal. I have never read it before.
Also I would like to put forward a classic I have never read:
St Alphonsus de Liguori - The Great Means of Salvation and Perfection
http://www.catholictreasury.info/Salvation/Default.htm
I have asked this question previously but it has not been picked up on. Can we discuss a lengthy article or need it be a book per se?
Pax!...............Barb

Well I dotn know where the moderators are but in my own humble opinion I think we can discuss about any book anytime . I dont think there are strict rules that go against that.
but anyway it d be nice to hear the opinion of other book club members about it

Re: Confused
Hi again Jimmy............I see that there are three books under discussion already, none of which particularly interest me as a discussion per se. So I'll just wait and see what comes up next..........meaning that I am happy to wait until a book comes up that would interest me as a discussion.
Pax!.................Barb

Well I like books about catholic history and philosophy.
I really like this place, it has writtings of the saints and how europe got covnerted.
http://www.fordham.edu/halsall/sbook1e.html
I also like the church fathers, anything from them would be cool
Im also reading this book about philosophy Meditations on First Philosophy By Descartes, a catholic philosopher.
It is not much of a spiritual book but it is about philosophy and God.
I dunn have many ideas for a book to read right now
unfortunately Im reading many right now about other topics that arent about catholicism, they are mainly of philosophy and literature.
