Cool, this should be good. Should be a great show the last time I listened to Matt Slick he invited Vin Lewis to the show.

As some of you know Vin Lewis is quite aggressive and about 8 minutes into the show pinned him into a corner, Matt cut him off, he then continued the show without Vin Lewis. It was interesting.

As Tim is a bit more "easy" on non-catholics this should make for a longer debate. Tim is great at focusing on the Bible and being very clear on his points which should make it quite difficult for Matt to dodge and evade. Tim had another debate years ago with some people from Calvary Chapel (similar thinking) which was entertaining and informative.

I can't wait for that one! I have been listening to Protestant Reformed Matt Slick's debate against Catholic Mark Bonocore which is available on Mp3 here...
http://forums.catholic.com/showthrea...re#post2721116

Mark Bonocore did an outstanding job against Matt Slick, yet they never discussed justification. I'm glad to see Tim Staples debate him, and it should be a good one for sure.

I anticipate the "debate" will be fairly cordial if Slick is anything like he was to Bonocore. I think Tim will represent the faith superbly, and it's great that his voice will be heard among non-Catholics. Especially since Slick's arguments are, well, specious.

He is kinda like the attack dog of Catholic Evangelists, he is very useful against the rabid fundamentalists and can shut them up quite quickly. His organization is much smaller than Catholic Answers and is more along the lines of "the department of defense of Catholicism"

He is criticized with being too harsh and sometimes too intense for most people taste, but he is quite useful and sometimes very entertaining. I think of him as the biggest secret Catholic Apologist.

Some people love him, some hate him, either way he is worth listening to a few times.

Though I think they disagree on how to deal with anti-catholics, Vin pounds them into the ground, Karl will speak more diplomatically they do work with different types of anti-catholicism.

It seems Vin is best at destroying arguements and working with an audience, proving the point so to speak.

Karl will work toward conversion of the heart and mind while diplomatically discussing the issue.

Tim Staples should do good on this debate, as he seems more like a mix between Karl Keating and Vin Lewis, He has enough bite to get the point across\not get pushed around and enough diplomacy to win the people's hearts also.

Vin tactics does seeem very agressive, but he is to the point. Though, I wouldn't use any of his methods but prefer Karl Keating in Apologetics..

I agree. I've noticed that Matt Slick likes to over use the word "equivocation." If he doesn't have an adequate answer, he says that's an "equivocation."

I talked to Vin Lewis one time on the phone. Scylla is right in his analysis, he is very aggressive and logical. I mean, he wasn't aggressive to me, I was just asking him about ordering stuff off his site. It was a nice conversation.

He builds his arguments on such grounds that if the audience is paying attention, they will be led to his Catholic conclusions. Though on a couple talks I've listened to, he assumes too much Catholic thought that a Protestant would not necessarily assume.

But all things considered, I like the guy. As a famous Protestant debater (Greg Bahnsen) once said, go for the throat in a debate. Vin does that!

The late Greg Bahnsen, by the way, was an OPC (Orthodox Presbyterian Church) retired pastor an expert in theology, history, and philosophy. He debated, and in my opinion, beat Gerry Matatics in Greg's early Catholic days. Also he beat a famous atheist, Gordon Stein, in what was called "The Great Debate."

Gordon Stein even admitted he lost the debate.

Marco Polo,

Has Karl described Matt Slick's style in the library?

Have they debated?

I haven't ever heard Vin, but from the descriptions I am reading would it be fair to call him the Catholic version of James White?

You know they are exact opposites. Maybe James and Vin should setup a debate..
