RPG: Lord of the Rings
It is October 22. Frodo lies fevering in Rivendell. Boromir is still two days away.
Introductory comments: this game is calendar-drive. That is, what happens in the book on that day happens in this game on that date. (As the Company leaves Rivendell on Christmas, and the ring was destroyed on Good Friday originally, that may be a problem). We'll figure it out as these dates approach.
Pick a character. What happens in the book will happen to your character (no peeking ahead! ). If you don't post on your character on a day, you missed it. This will end on March 25 (unless this comes to an end before then). The first 9 will get to be the Fellowship; others can fill in as Elrond, etc.
The only catch is.....Your character must be a cartoon character and, if posting, post lines the way the character would. We will, of course, not post everything that happens. Once a character is taken, you have to pick another character.
Sample: Nook II Chapter VI, Elmer Fudd as Aragorn: "OOOh dose wascally orcs! We can't stick awound heah! Farewell, Gwandalf; Did I not say to you, Wook Out in Morwia? See, I was wight! Now what are we gonna do?"
If you are posting comments out of character, preface it with
ME:
as opposed to
Aragorn:
I have never tried this before, so if it doesn't work, don't be surprised. Characters can take action, but not in violation of the book. There are also some long periods, such as the time in Rivendell, where there is no action.
I haven't decided on what I want. Charlie Brown as Frodo? Yosemite Sam as Gandalf? Elmer Fudd as Aragorn? Bugs Bunny as Boromir?
Comments? There is still time to kick this around as an idea before the action starts.

Re: RPG: Lord of the Rings
How about William Shakespeare as Samwise Gamgee? I know he's not a cartoon character, but...

Hmmm...The Iambic Gardener?
Some of the dialog could be very, very tough..
SG: Fie on thee, cob! I shall smite thee fore and aft! Hast thou mine Frodo?
Well, that sounds more like German.

Saruman (Archie B,): "appears silently on balcony. Gandalf, Theodoen et al. look up. Saruman surveys the crowd. Finally he opens his mouth": Meathead! "Slams door on exit"

Re: RPG: Lord of the Rings
Breaks into song: Cross the rainbow bridge to Asgard, where the booming heavens roar, you'll behold in breathless wonder, the god of thunder, Mighty Thor!

Casting Problems continue
Archie as Saruman ("Saruman, your cigar is broken") leads to the following:
Missy Piggy: Arwen, Galadriel, Eowyn
means
Kermit as Aragorn
and somehow
Gonzo as Gandalf
and of course
Swedish chef as ancillary support person (Theoden, Denethor, Balrog, Elrond)
Merry and Pippn played by the two old critics
Sam the Eagle as Legolas
Animal as Sam
leaving
Fozzie Bear as Frodo
Minor details to be worked out later.
Maybe this thread should be in Apologetics.

Re: RPG: Lord of the Rings
Oh, yeah. It is October 23. Elrond is still digging around inside Frodo. The Nazgul are all washed up. Boromir is one day away. Not much is happening.
Shakespeare.Sam might soon say:
Boromir, O Boromir, wherefore art thou Boromir?

-------------------------
I may suggest Robin as Legolas. Superman as Gimli. Observe the results:
Legolas: Hallowed mashed potatoes, Gimli! There lies the renowned Silmaril which Maglor flung into the sea as it burned his corrupted hand!
Gimli: Ack! Don't touch it, Legolas! It's not the Silmaril! It's kryptonite!!! *falls over*
-------------
Oops...I guess I wasn't supposed to kill off the main characters.

Re: RPG: Lord of the Rings
October 24!
Frodo: "waking" Yabba-dabba doo! WILMA!!
Sam: Shall I compare thee to a summer's day? Thou art far more -
Frodo: Quit holding my hand, freak!
------
I'll leave Boromir's arrival for someone else. This probably will work better if we cast characters for scenes as they occur. If Hollywood takes note, maybe they will pay us the big bucks to do the casting for major motion pictures! -
