Default selling blessed items

Hi everyone.
As issue came up at our church. It's realted to selling blessed items. We have almost a tradition of selling blessed rosaries and last sunday I couldn't stand it and said it out loud that it's simony. Now I am required to pove my point of view. Can anyone please help? Any church documnet or logical reasoning is very helpful. Thanks and God bless

It is a technicality but you can not sell the blessing, just the item, perhaps that is what they are meaning by "prove it". Maybe they could be clearer by stating they are not selling the blessing (as in is the object more expensive because it has a blessing or is it the same price if it hasn't been blessed before purchase?)

We have a Deacon who owns our closest Religious Goods store so when I purchase something from the store and wish it to be blessed I and he is there (he is not always at the store) I ask him to do it after I have purchase the item.

Hello,

The key test is - do they charge more because it is blessed. For instance, if they are selling Rosaries, do they charge $2.00 for an unblessed and $2.00 for a blessed Rosary - that's o.k. But, if they charge $2.00 for an unblessed Rosary and $3.00 for a blessed Rosary - that is wrong.

No, it don't think this is the case. They sell them for 4$ each, which doesn't seem high for a rosary. Actually what concerns me is that half of the persons who bought rosaries bought them because they are blessed, and if they hadn't been blessed they wouldn't have been bought. I know this because I was charged with selling them. So, what do you think?

When i buy anything from our church shop i always ask father to bless it, he does so with no charge, perhaps they thought it would be easier to bless them before selling, as is would save people seeking out the priest all the time, as long as there is no charge.

The items just need to be reblessed once they are purchased. It's not simony to purchase a previously blessed item, unless you are paying a higher price for the blessing.

I have found 2 lines or agrumentation in favor of procaliming the selling of blessed rosaries simony.
This is the first:
1.Simony= buying or selling spiritual things(CCC2121)
2. The sacramentalies are spiritual things(CCC1667)
3.Blessed objects are sacramentalies (CCC1678 and 1672,Can 1166+1169)
4. Blessed rosaries are blessed objects
=> Buying or selling blessed rosaries is simony (can 1171)

Can you please tell me if you see any logical inconsistency? It would be really helpful in my debate. Thanks
