Where do I go from here?

I'm sure you all get this allot, so forgive me for being yet another hopeless college student. Alas, I'm a "kid" with no direction. At least, not anymore. For the longest time I knew what I wanted. I wanted to be a bird specialist, someone people would come to for information about birds, particuarly wild birds. But it seems I can't do that. I'm no good at math or chem whatsoever, and those are the very classes I'd have to take to get a degree in the sciences. It's not that I haven't tried either; I've attempted to take the classes. I go to a University of California, and it's the quarter system, so it goes by EXTREMELY fast. It's all I can do to keep up. I'm lucky to have gotten into a UC straight from HS; so I don't want to lose my place.
I want to travel, I want someday to be a housewife. But I want a job I enjoy too, especially if I wanna travel cuz that of course costs money. I'm lost. I don't know what I want to do anymore, and I'm just gonna end up disappointing everyone if I don't figure something out.
A friend of mine said I should just "get up and go". Just travel, take a road trip or something, get some experience, find myself. Course, being a woman, it may not be a good idea to go by myself though I've no idea with whom I'd go with.
Ah man, I feel like such a failure. I have no clue what my talents are, what I'm good at. I've taken a "career" class, but it didn't really help. I don't know. I guess technically no one can really help here either, and I should try going to the career center again. I guess I'd like the Catholic's opinion, if there is one. I wouldn't mind traveling, but since I have so little money, I don't know if that's a good idea. So, if anyone has some suggestions, I'm all ears! Or...eyes I guess, since I'm reading this not listening.

I'm sure that you're not the only one with such an issue and I'm sure that most people finally decided on what they want. I don't think anyone here can give you a specific advice because we don't know you. What we can however say is to entrust your future to God. Pray that he guides you to whatever place He wants you to be (the good news is that He wants you to be happy ). How about spending some time with the Lord in Adoration? But maybe you're already doing it.

You also said that you want to be a housewife so it's entirely possible that your vocation in life is marriage. If it is then I'm sure Lord will help you also find your loved one.

you could also start learning about birds they way we amateurs do, visiting birding centers, joining birding groups, reading everything you can get your hands on about birds, and spending long hours outside in habitats (usually very early in the morning or in the evening around dusk) just sitting quietly and watching and listening the birds. that is how Audubon, Peterson and the great naturalists did it.

You can plan your travel around the birds, their nesting sites, wintering sites, migration routes (which is what a lot of us Winter Texans do). In fact, if you are serious about birds, it will be almost impossible for you to travel without the birds in mind. start by asking the Cof C or local birding groups for maps showing best birding locations in your immediate area and take day trips, alone or with a birding group

this is similar advice I would give to someone who says "I want to be a writer but I flunked English and I have no time to write" the advice is always the same. Write.

If you want to study birds, study birds. you don't need a degree for that. you can start with an inexpensive set of binoculars and a good guide and a good map (and sunscreen with insect repellent). hook up with a birding group, and you will likely get in on transportation, and somebody will have a spotting scope.

tip, say a little prayer to St. Francis everytime you set out, and the birds will cooperate for you. and maybe you will meet some cute bird-watching guys your age, so many of our group are couples who were drawn to each other by this interest and now in their "golden years" share this wonderful hobby.

I do do a lot of birdwatching on my own, and you're right, everywhere I go, I can't help but notice birds. I guess you're right; I don't need a degree to study birds... but what do I do while in college? Just graduate in a degree I can graduate in? And what kind of career do I support myself with afterwards...? Hm... maybe it's just a matter of gathering outside experience and working my way that way...

(I failed to mention that I have a boyfriend, and I think he's the one, so I'm not worried as of yet about that part of my future. Actually, even if I wasn't yet going out, I'd still worry more about my career future than family, cuz I know it's all in God's good time).

Okay then, I guess, that's just what I'll do... Thanks. I feel a lil better, though school's gonna continue to be hard cuz I don't feel motivated. Sad I know. But thanks! I appreciate it. ^^
