Default Devotion with 2000 Hail Marys

I've been hearing about this devotion for quite some time, and I was wondering if anyone knew more about it, and if there are any other ressources out there pertaining to it? A simple google search led me to this site: http://2000hailmarys.org/

but I was wondering if there was more to this devotion..

This is the first I've heard of it, but it seems that 2000 Hail Mary's in one day (that's 40 Rosaries!) is a pretty big devotion, so that's probably all there is to it.

Hmmm....I am one of those who takes the rosary at a slow pace, to improve my contemplation. 5 decades takes about half an hour, 20 decades would take 2 hours, so 2, 000 HMs (200 decades would take me about 20 hours?

No.

The schedule on that link goes from 8:30 am to 7pm including lunch and the Divine Mercy Chaplet at 3pm. The Hail Marys are not said as part of the rosary, still they must be going at a pretty good clip and no dinner until you are all done!

It also appears to be a once a year (March 25) or even once a life-time devotion.

That is my big worry, the "pretty good clip". Do all those HMs really mean anything when recited in such a mechanical manner? Well, for some I guess it is OK, but I'd rather take fewer HMs, done so I can mediatate while doing so.

It says 8:45-9:45 -

The Sign of the Cross
The Apostles Creed
The Our Father
Three Hail Marys
Glory Be

The Joyful Mysteries (including meditation)
The Luminous Mysteries (including medition)
The Sorrowful Mysteries (including meditation)
The Glorious Mysteries (including meditation)

I don't understand how a person can say all five mysteries in one hour

They are saying 2000 Hail Mary's right this minute at Holy Innocents Chapel here in Albuquerque, NM. I'd be there now but I'm baby sitting. Check out Project Defending Life for more info.

It takes me at LEAST half an hour to pray one rosary (one set of mysteries). Any faster, and I'm just rote reciting, not meditating on the prayers. I don't think it's possible, unless you're just rattling them off as fast as you can. And what's the purpose of that?

20 petitions!
I could even think of 20 things I wanted.

I'd also have to try to say a rosary in 15 minutes.
So it's actually 2200 HMs according to their guide.

That's CrAzY!i!i!

I might attempt it though.

I've got half a year to practice.

It always takes me about two hours to pray the rosary. It's always a wonderful devotional period, but the fact that it takes me that long makes it so much less likely that I do it in the first place . So I don't do it at all often. It's rather sad.
