Default Egg Nog--Hot or Cold???

Hi everyone,

In my family, we've always drank Egg Nog hot.

I was at a friend's house and they served me cold Egg Nog. They thought it was bizarre/weird that I drink it hot.

Do you drink it hot or cold? My friend thinks my family is the only family around that likes it hot.

Thanks,

Barbara

Hot, but only if it contains plenty of brandy and rum, otherwise cold.

my dad used to make it and serve it hot but he called it a Tom and Jerry, because of the brandy he added (he did not like rum, maybe the name depends on the liquor used). If I recall my English, a nog or noggin is any hot rum drink, and a toddy is any hot whiskey drink. linguists, help me out here. I don't drink it at all because I hate sweet drinks, waste of good liquor.

I like it either way, but usually just have it cold. And it's extra yummy with spiced rum.

We drink it room temperature. I voted cold though, because it definately isn't steamy. For hot we make wassail.

I love Eggnog!! Very festive. We've always had it cold, but hot sounds good too.

Cold (I've actually never tried it hot)... but if it's an eggnog latte, then that's another story!

Try the following:

1/3 Egg Nog
1/3 Christian Bros. Brandy
1/3 Creame de Cocoa

Mix in blender with Ice

Great blend

I've never heard of or tried hot. We always had cold. I made my own for years, but that was well before the raw egg scares came out. You have me thinking of making it again, if I can find the recipe.

I was stunned that you'd never heard of hot egg nog until I looked at your location. Hot is the normal way in cold places, or used to be, and egg nog was usually alcoholic except for little children.

My 4th Degree Knights of Columbus assembly has a Tom & Jerry party every December. They make it with a batter and hot water, along with brandy. It tastes similar to eggnog, but it is not the same thing. I like pre-made eggnog cold, but if there is brandy or Kirschwasser (German cherry brandy) in it, I prefer it hot.
