Usually after the Epiphany. But this year we will be on travel. So the only day I'll have is Jan 1st for de-decorating the homestead. DW says leaving up the Christmas lights all year long is just too white trashy

We take our Christmas Tree down after Epiphany. I've heard some say they take theirs down after The Presentation of Our Lord, which is Feb. 2nd .

I packed everything away yesterday (12/30). When I was a boy, the tree came down the night of Epiphany after the Magi had come.

I take everything down before New Year's although this year, one thing after another has happened leaving me no time, so it won't come down until Jan. 1st soonest.

My Nativity scene stays up until Jan. 6th, however.

Presentation of Our Lord aka Candlemas. We did that one year -- because we'd had an icestorm that lasted well into January and couldn't get it out before mid January, so we figured we'd go the whole way . . we've also done on the curb on December 26 b/c the live tree was so dry, we were afraid of fire. In general, we put the decorations away as soon after the Epiphany as is practical.

Well, I didn't have a Christmas tree, and usually don't. The three cats and all that. I do have an advent wreath, but the candles were lit only when I was in the room to make sure the cats didn't cause problems.

To that end, learning something I mean, why is it called "Candlemas"?

Going to google the history when I have time, but, when I was an Anglican, we always had the candles blessed for the year on that date. I don't know why I was surprised when I became a Catholic, that on Feb 2nd, people came out bringing candles from home to have them blessed in addition to the priest blessing the beeswax candles to be used for the rest of the year.
