Default How Many Female Doctors of the Church?

Hi everyone, I'm new.... I am writing a rebuttal to an editorial in my local paper and I needed to know quickly how many female Doctors of the Catholic Church there are. Is it only St. Therese of Lisieux, St. Catherine of Siena and St. Teresa of Avila? Or am I missing one?? Many thanks for any help!

Pat

The most powerful weapon to conquer the Devil is humility. For as he does not know at all how to employ it, neither does he know how to defend himself from it.

Technically, shouldn't they be Nurses of the Church?

Both Saint Teresa and Saint Catherine were named Doctors of the Church in 1970; St. Therese of Lisieux was given the title in 1997.

Why would they be nurses? Just because they're female? That makes no sense and really isn't funny.

actually it was meant only as a joke and depends on being a part of other threads...Kinda an inside joke. Sorry to offend. None was intended, certainly by me. I'm one of those dreaded feminists!

No problem, no offense taken. When I read that this morning, I had a flash-back to being an undergrad at a local university. Upon learning which school I attended, 90% of people I met would immediately reply: "Oh, you're going to be a nurse!", the implication that, because I am a woman, I must be attending that school for nursing, why else would I go? (Never mind that the school is even more famous for dentistry and architecture, not to mention the high med school admission rates for its graduates.)

There's not a thing wrong with nursing. In fact, I DID consider it for a while and realized that I am not called to that line of service. I admire the women and MEN who are.
