NFL Catholics - The Playoffs
I was watching the Seahawks/Redskins game today and got to thinking: Which NFL players in this year's playoffs are Catholic? Besides our own Philip Rivers (who appeared on EWTN - GO CHARGERS!!), aren't there others? Isn't the Seahawks' Matt Hasselbeck Catholic? Doesn't rumor have it that Tom Brady of the Patriots is Catholic also?
You guys might have a better idea than I do...thanks

Re: NFL Catholics - The Playoffs
I'm pretty sure Hasselbeck is Catholic because Elizabeth (his sister-in-law) and her husband (his brother) are Catholics...
I could be wrong though!

How can you forget Brett Favre! Jay Feely of the Giants is also Catholic.

Yes, I believe so, but I don't believe Elizabeth is practicing anymore. I believe she proclaims to be just a Christian.

Re: NFL Catholics - The Playoffs
Troy Polomalu of The Pittsburgh Steelers is a devout Catholic. I have seen him make the sign of the cross before a play (I heard he actually makes it before EVERY play he is in!). Here is a link from cathollic.org: www.catholic.org/national/national_story.php?id=21277.
We were knocked out of the playoffs last night !

Yay Seahawks!!! Way to go!
*ahem* I'm not sure about Hassleback (I don't think he's Catholic, but I could be wrong). I have heard that Tom Brady is... but again, I'm not sure! (That was helpful, I know.)

Re: NFL Catholics - The Playoffs
Tom Brady grew up in a Catholic family and went to a Catholic high school. His father, in fact, studied for seven years to be a priest. Tom Brady also met with Pope John Paul II in 2004.
I don't know whether Brady still practices his faith. I know his current girlfriend has been quite critical of the church.
I remember that after the Patriots won Superbowl XXXVIII, Tom Brady donated the car he won as MVP for that game to his old high school. The school auctioned off the car sometime after Brady had all of his teammates put their signatures on the trunk. I always thought that was generous of him.

Brett's prayer's were answered as the Pack defeated the Seahawks and advanced to NFCchampionship game this coming Sunday. We are going to smash the Giants and onto the SuperBowl!

No one I like is in the playoffs. SO by default, I'll pray a few for the Packers...and the Chargers

Re: NFL Catholics - The Playoffs
Tom Brady is....not my favorite, and that goes for his employer.
The Steelers are, of course, out of it, but the Rooneys are Catholics.
Since Brett Favre is Catholic, Go Pack Go!
