Default Can I download a free Catholic Bible?

I haven't read the Bible in long while, due to circumstance , but i feel inspired now to read it again. I want to do a good study of the bible from start to finish. However, alot of bibles use old english, and are very difficult to follow. At the moment I'm on my mums computor attempting to copy scripture page for page from an online Bible called New American Bible. It also gives explanations for each passage. But its taking ages. Do you know of any free Bibles i can Down Load that have an easy read translation?

I would be most gratefull. God bless.

Can I ask why you don't just buy a Catholic bible. Paper backs are available reasonably cheap.

Maybe a better question would be why isn't there a Catholic bible that can be downloaded for free?

Do you think Jesus would charge people money for the bible?

How would the USCCB answer that question?

I ask because I know they make money from the sale of the NAB.

I know that the Douay Rheims is in the public domain and other individuals that are Catholics that have produced bible that are in the public domain-isn't Ron Conte doing that?

I guess it all depends on what the definition of "Catholic" bible is.

I think it would be great if one could download an English version of the Nova Vulgata for free.

I'll continue to tilt at that windmill and wait patiently for a pope to come along that will take the name of Jerome.

Unfortunately, the USCCB does not permit the version of the NAB approved for use in the Mass to be printed and sold, except as Lectionaries.

my translation is not yet completed:
http://www.sacredbible.org/
But it is public domain and can be freely downloaded and printed out.

I don't think it would be immoral for you to download the NAB, for your own private use, from the USCCB website, or from the Vatican website.

I think that the Neo-Vulgate is not a continuation of the Latin Scriptural tradition, and does not even attempt to present itself as a version of the old and vulgate edition of Scripture.

Quote:
Moreover, the same sacred and holy Synod,--considering that no small utility may accrue to the Church of God, if it be made known which out of all the Latin editions, now in circulation, of the sacred books, is to be held as authentic,--ordains and declares, that the said old and vulgate edition, which, by the lengthened usage of so many years, has been approved of in the Church, be, in public lectures, disputations, sermons and expositions, held as authentic; and that no one is to dare, or presume to reject it under any pretext whatever.

When one can purchase an English language Bible for as little as five bucks, why would you bust your boodie downloading it page by page and maybe even burning up paper and ink to print it out?

Is the confraternity bible in the public domain or not? Does the USCCB still hold the copyright?

If they do why are they so afraid to let it be published? Singtala publishes it--why is it that nobody else in the world publishes it?

And why is it that you can go to no internet site to read any of the books that were in the Confraternity Version or to download them? What is there to fear in that?

This one? I think it's out of print, but still enough copies from used stores.

Hi, Ron Conte!

Is this a Catholic Bible (does it include all of the 73 books) and is it authorized by the Catholic Church?

Maran atha!

any bible is going to take up a huge amount of memory and take forever to down load

just access the New American Bible from the bishop's website
usccb.org, it is the most readable translation for Catholics. there is no need to download it and even if you did and printed it that would cost more in toner than just purchasing a bible.

Although it's not downloadable, you can get the New American Bible on the Vatican website - www.vatican.va - just go to the section listed 'Resource Library'. I think the layout is very useful since you'll really have to read it off the screen - it's not a continuous section of text; rather the chapters of each book are listed separately, so it's easier to access and keep track of what you've read. The text is well spread out too, so it's easy on the eyes! There are explanatory footnotes too - I'm not sure if they're common to every New American Bible, or if the Vatican provided them, but it's useful to have such access to info about names, places, customs and historical backgrounds...

However, as others have said, in the long run you'll probably be better-off buying a good copy for yourself - at least then you'll know you always have access to it, unlike the internet sometimes...

Amazon.com, baby! Used bibles galore. Check out Ebay, too!

I'll bet that if you're financially strapped, you parish would provide one for you free.
