Exercise support group--week of 1/20/08
Gearing up to weight lift today--wish me luck. I have slacked off with that a bit. Make it a great week everyone!
Yesterday's report--I power walked for 3 miles-it was great. I hope everyone meets their goals for the week!
Here's to health.

Re: Exercise support group--week of 1/20/08
Good morning/afternoon! I just got back from a 10 mile run, and I feel amazingly good. It was a really good run; much better than last Tuesday's 10 miler.
So, my goals for this week are to run 25 miles, 10 of which are already completed.
Sharon, you're doing so well. You're such an inspiration. Keep it up!

Me? I'm an inspiration to YOU--who is now up to a 25 mile weekly goal? Really-I have watched your devotion and dedication to your training, and it is so inspiring! You inspire me, my brother in Christ.

Well, I guess we inspire each other. Actually, you and PF inspire me. It's great to see a couple dedicated to physical fitness.

Thanks Michael! We are trying. He would like to get me a mountain bike, so we can bike together, he said today. But, I could jog, and he could bike...now that my foot is better, I might be able to keep up a little better with his bike ha!

If you can keep up with his bike, I'll be really impressed.

I don't know why, but my thighs are really sore from my run yesterday. But I still managed to run 3 miles this morning. Gotta keep on track.

Re: Exercise support group--week of 1/20/08
Excellent Michael!
Hi again everyone. I did the eliptical today--whew--that is such an amazing (and sometimes painful) workout! I went about 2 miles, and threw in high intense intervals for 30 seconds on and off throughout the peak of the workout. I also put the resistance on "8" and lean forward to mimic an uphill bike climb. My legs are like jello right now.
I also did a few yoga moves, and 50 sit ups and push ups--while watching Fr Corapi on EWTN! It was awesome. I wish I could workout at this time everyday. It's not too early or too late.
But, as I was working out today, I thought that I might start working out in the mornings before work. I already get up about 20 minutes earlier to pray, so I could just add 30 minutes onto that...might be the best time. I have a harder time being consistent when I wait to workout after work...or I could workout at work, at the gym. We'll see...
I feel great--sore, but great! Have a healthy day!

Good job, Sharon. I need to get into intervals with my running. I'm planning to add them in next month. I must say, though, I'm really impressed with 8 on the eliptical. That is one heck of a hard resistance. No wonder your legs are jelly now.

Yes--8 is agonizing. I didn't realize it until it was over, and I felt off balance when I got off the eliptical! ha! I still feel a jiggling feeling as I type this! But, if you make your back flatter, and place your hands on the inside bars of the elipitcal, it can 'mimic' an uphill bike climb, and then it makes it a bit more bearable. (because you're shifting your weight from side to side like in spinning/biking)
Throwing in intervals will make you a faster runner, I have read. When I was into running before my foot died last year, I would sprint as fast as I could for about 45 seconds--it is hard at first, but if you do that say 10 times throughout your run, you will end up becoming a faster runner. (if that is something that is important to you) Also, it builds endurance. I do the intervals every time I walk, because it keeps things interesting, and....your body tends to remember the same workout if you never change anything....so, your muscles and everything get 'ready' for the next thing, and sometimes, our bodies can get in ruts.
I feel great! My next workout will be weights only...maybe tonight, I'll do that. Tomorrow will be a lighter day for cardio.
My hands are jiggling too. That's weird, no?

Wow, you gave your whole body an extreme workout. That's gotta be good.
I would like to be a faster runner, and intervals is one way to accomplish that. Losing my excess weight would be the other way. I've read that for each extra pound I carry, it adds 2 seconds to my mile. So if I could lose 30 pounds, I could knock a whole minute off my mile.

I didn't know that ratio--interesting! Do you lift weights? You don't want to add bulk, but if you turn the body fat into muscle it will most certainly help you 'move' quicker....You are still doing so awesome! So are you madly in love with running, now? I enjoy the eliptical because it gives me the speed of running, without the jarring of my foot. I guess I'm a little tenative to kick things into a run...I say I'm going to, and then I get skiddish. It just took so long to heal.
