Re: Exercise support group--week of 1/27/08
So I thought I was doing really well this past week. Stepped on the scale, no change in weight.
The next 3 weeks are going to be rather strange schedule-wise for me. Not sure how much, or when, I'll be able to get exercise in. So I'm going to really focus on 2,200 calories every day.

Hi nick--I know it can be frustrating, but the scale shows our entire weight, so is it possible that you are exchanging fat loss for muscle gain? (like you're losing the fat, but it's being replaced with muscle, thus the scale shows no change) Your workouts are awfully impressive, so it makes me wonder if the scale is stagnant because of simply exchanging one 'weight' for another. How are your clothes fitting? Do you take measurements? I took my measurements the other day with a tape measure, and I'm also going to be going by that. I'd like to lose about 15 lbs, and I started a stronger workout routine this week, and only 1 pound loss which I also was angry about. But, I might be gaining muscle...Do you keep track of calories burned per week...I know you do off equipment workouts, but maybe if there is some way to gauge your calories burned against your calories, maybe you are taking in more than you're burning? I believe it's 3500 calories either need to be burned or we need to knock off 3500 calories weekly, to equal one pound. So, if I subtract 500 calories each day, plus burn 400 calories or more per day, I could lose easily 2 to 3 pounds per week, but so far it's just one for this week, and it really makes no sense to me either. How I long for the days when I ate whatever, and was like a rail.
How much weight do you want to lose, may I ask?

Re: Exercise support group--week of 1/27/08
Hello, team. I was wondering if I would be able to get a long run in this week, as I leave this evening for San Francisco, and I won't have time for a long run there (I come home Friday evening). It rained heavily all night last night, but the rain stopped around 7:30 this morning, so I decided to go for it. I made it 10 miles without rain, so that was good. My goal for the week is to run 25 miles.

LOL, doesn't everyone wish for days when they could eat whatever & not have to worry?
I have another 38 to go to get to where the doctor wants me. But I think I would be happy with another 18.
I don't take measurements, but since starting last Jan I have gone down 2 pant sizes. I have noticed a decrease in waistline the past couple of weeks, which is always good.
I know I should probably be focusing on measurements & body type more than I do, but I weighed so much when I started that it has been all about dropping weight for me. Inches, muscle, etc. have all been biproducts of me dropping weight.

It always amazes me that you can run for 10 miles straight. I think I could make 2, maybe 3, but that's it. I think I'm going to try getting some runs in the next few weeks. With my schedule being all out of whack that may be the only exercise I can get.

Keep in mind that a year ago, 4 miles was a long run for me. It's been a long process to build up the endurance, thanks to support from my friends here.

Great job--10 miles--that's too cool for words! Like nick, I wondered too if you run the 10 miles straight? In my peak running days, I could max at 4.5 miles...so 10 miles is hard for me to imagine doing.

Re: Exercise support group--week of 1/27/08
I went nearly 2 miles on the eliptical, doing my 30-45 second on and off intervals...the same high intensity for my legs to get good resistance...I was sweating big time today! Then, I did a great upper body workout--did advanced in the book that Kathy and I have. (Kathy I did the workout on page 189 (Day 3) --advanced. Woah--my muscles are jiggling as I type... If you push yourself, her workouts give you enough to be fatigued but not too much that you don't know what you've accomplished. Good luck with the book!
Looks like everyone is doing great!

I used to not take measurements, but when the scale 'sticks' it helps to see that I am making progress. I think you're doing so well...keep up the great work!!

WG, That is awesome, those intervals Interval's do a great job of burning those muscles. Just a walk for me today, but looking forward to a good workout week.

Hi Time!
Hey now-don't say...'just a walk...' Not every workout needs to be intense...IN FACT...I have read over the years, that it can be counterproductive to work out at the same high intensity level daily...tomorrow, for me...will be treadmill at work during my lunchhour, and less intense than today. So--you went for a walk...not just a walk. Aren't you glad you have me here to correct you, TIME?

I do run the full 10 miles straight. No walking. No stopping, unless I'm trying to cross a busy street, and have to wait for cars. But I usually don't have to stop, as there's not many cars on the road on Sunday mornings. I took a nice hot bath afterwards. I thought about your alternate method of relaxing muscles, but since it's morning, decided on the bath instead.
