Am I catholic?
I have just joined the Catholic Church (was baptised as a baby into the Church of England) and I am having private instruction from our Parish Priest to help me prepare for First Communion. Is it right for me to tell people that I am Catholic, when they ask my faith?

Re: Am I catholic?
What do you mean by "just joined the Church"?
You will not officially be a Catholic until you are confirmed.

Re: Am I catholic?
Sorry, just an expression. I meant I have just decided to become Catholic. I have been thinking of it for a while and I am hoping I may find people to help me on this site.

Re: Am I catholic?
I may not be the utmost authority, but I personally don't think there would be anything wrong with saying you are a Catholic if you're actively converting.
Someone once said that we must continue to be converted every single day. If that's true, you are probably more Catholic than lots of us who were baptized as infants!
If you still feel uncomfortable about it, though, you could just say, "I'm becoming Catholic" and leave it at that.
God bless, good luck, and welcome home!

Not so, actually. If being confirmed were a requirement, then we would have almost no Catholics below the teen years.

Re: Am I catholic?
My understanding is that, for those not baptized into the Catholic faith, they would not be styled "Catholic" unless they made a formal profession of faith (usuaully at the Easter Vigil), or before they were confirmed.

Re: Am I catholic?
As soon as you receive you first communion your in. You'll then get your secret decoder ring.
All kidding aside........only Catholics can recieve communion. You do not need to be confirmed to receive communion.

Re: Am I catholic?
While I too am "becoming" Catholic and will not even be a full member until Easter Vigil of next year, because I believe in all Catholic teachings and consider the Holy See my authority in matters of faith and morals, I now call myself a Catholic, since I have already been baptized and had first communion as a child.
If you want to shout out "I'm a Catholic!" I say go for it!

Ally2k!
Go girl go!
Yes, call yourself CATHOLIC proudly. I converted 4 years ago -- and before being brought in, during my instruction, YES, I told everyone I was CATHOLIC. That was the only faith I wanted to identify with, and it helped me to really become catholic.

EVERY baptized baby in the name of the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit (water pour) is Catholic. Whether they do it in Lutheran Church, Mormon Church, Orthodox Church or Joe Protestant's Church.
Untuil they reach the age of reason and start denying the Catholic Church and following a false creed (Sola Fide, Sola Scriptura etc). By then, they become non-Catholic.
If you've been baptized and start to realizing the Catholic church. I';d say you are a Catholic. Even more so after your Confession. even more more so after your confirmation. And more more more more after partaking in the feast that is The Mass and become one body with our Lord which symbolize your unity with the community of people of God.

Re: Am I catholic?
Your are Christian by virtue of your baptism.....If you had not been baptised then you would not be a cathoic till you were, but you are catholic by jopining the church as a baptised christian...
