Exercise support thread--week of 2/24/08
Happy Sunday, everyone. I've been really busy this past week, but I managed to meet my goals. Now it's time to set goals for the coming week. I'm planning to run 26 miles this week, including an 11 mile long run. I couldn't do my long run today, as it's raining quite heavily here (Yes, it does rain in Southern California). So it looks like I'll do my long run tomorrow morning.

Hi Michael--I like how you have inserted a long run into your goals/routine now--that's really amazing progress!!
I did spinning today--for 30 minutes--went nearly 8 miles...then, did upper body weights...hey--I can do two sets of 15 with the 45 lb bar from my son's weight bench Don't laugh--It was heavy for me about a month ago, and I could barely do 6 reps. It was nice to see some progress in the strength department. My son told me the other day--'hey mom, you don't ask me to unscrew any jars anymore--you're getting stronger!' haha...baby steps.
Have a good week everyone--keep up the great work!

Re: Exercise support thread--week of 2/24/08
Good Monday Morning all -
Last week the whole family was down with a cold so we didn't do much but take it easy.
We're on the rebound now and feeling much better. Today I go to get a tooth pulled (one that was root canal-ed last fall *ugh*) and it's an early appt as I wanted to get it over and done with... so at 8:50AM (it's 7:43AM now) I will be at the dentist's. I pray they numb me up good and it goes quickly once I'm fully numb in that area (last tooth in the back, left side, bottom.
Thanks for the prayers and have a great week!

Prayers going out to you imamom!! Nice seeing you here, and hopefully, everything will turn out just fine.
I did 30 minutes eliptical--I used a program for resistance, it was pretty good. Hope everyone else is doing well.

Re: Exercise support thread--week of 2/24/08
Hey Folks.
I ve really changed things around with my routine. Its all cardio & dumbells the last few weeks M-F. One hour in the early AM.
M-W-F 30 min eliptical/25 min weights/5 min stretch + sit ups
T-R 50 min eliptical+stretchs & sit ups
As my family is now about to get bigger, again. I ve really had to take an inventory. So I bought a new mountian bike, so I would have something fitness related to do with the kids. The fact that I will be pulling 2 little ones soon in a bike trailor made me up grade.
Anyways, sounds like the brutal winter is not having too much of an impact on folks here.
Keep up the hard work.

Re: Exercise support thread--week of 2/24/08
I did my 11 mile long run yesterday. I find that, if I stay fairly active the day of a long run, my muscles don't get a chance to tighten up. This morning I woke up feeling really good. So I did a 3 mile run this morning. Life is good!
Sharon, I'm proud of you. Good job on the improvements!
Heather, take care of yourself, and don't push yourself too hard. Your health is very important.
Frank, congrats on the addition to the family. What's the due date?

God is blessing you with many arrows in your quiver. My 4th grandchild will be due in August. It'll be the season of 4s.

I really did'nt plan on being a Dad again in my late 30's, but it's thy will be done, not mine. I really am happy about this, but still a bit in shock.
Your welcome for the support/conversation, but thanks to you for being a great example being a few years older.

Re: Exercise support thread--week of 2/24/08
Yo guys! Long time since I have posted here!
Glad to see new folks on the thread too! PT is fun.
I have been back from Iraq for a couple months now. I am trying to get my butt used to riding my bike again. Sat I managed 2 hours/30 miles. Monday I ran 2 miles and today worked legs in the gym. Tomorrow... more running.
I have just gotten settled back in my unit and home and I have to go to a school now. I leave in 3 weeks for California! I hope to rent a bike there.

Hey, Courage, what a treat to see you? I've missed you. You're an inspiration! How was your tour? Where in California will you be staying?

Re: Exercise support thread--week of 2/24/08
Ciao Michael,
Who are you calling an inspiration? 11 miles for a run? That is impressive.
The tour is fine. I was super busy. The troops were good, not too many problems to fix. I sent quite a few home for family emergencies. I like that part, not the emergencies, but helping people when they need it. It was hot, 123 degrees, an apparently I just missed the hot spell. That was when I got there. It dropped to the low 70s when I left in Dec.
I am happy to be home with my bride and northern Italy!
I am going to the Chief Petty Officer Academy with the Coast Guard. It is near Petaluma. There are 4 of us Air Force guys going to school with the Coast Guard. Should be good.
I ordered a new bike when I returned, should be ready this week. I am pretty excited. It should be lighter, maybe make me faster? ha ha
God Bless

. . . especially if you go downhill. Sounds awesome, though. Now don't be a stranger. Yes, you are an inspiration. Your rides are awesome. I wish I could do that.

Nice to see some old faces again! (well not old old...nevermind) ha
Glad you are back Courage and frank- I have missed hearing about your workouts, too.
I did not work out yesterday--came home early from work with a migraine...and haven't been sleeping well for some unknown reason. I am not working out tonight either--just don't feel like me. Hopefully, I'll get a good night's rest tonight, and be able to workout tomorrow. Take care everyone!

Re: Exercise support thread--week of 2/24/08
Sunday during my long run I hit a mud slick and fell. My knee turned nice shades of purple overnight and developed a puffy fluid pocket over the kneecap, so I've done 2 sessions on the elliptical this week and have cut down to just the necessary commuter cycling. I did add a nice 2 mile swim tonight.
I'm off the running until Sunday when I hope to actually complete a 2:45 run.
