Exercise support thread--week of 3/9/08
Good morning, friends. It's time to set new goals for how we maintain the Temple of the Holy Spirit, our bodies. I guess I'll get started. My goals is to run 26 miles, including an 11 mile long run in less than 1:40. I'm focussing on improving my pace.
Who's next?

I want to train three times, and lose 1 pound. I don't know how Easter will go though, with all the candy

I think I read somewhere that calories don't count on Easter.

Oh, wouldn't that be lovely.
It would be dumb to erase all the work I've done in just one week though.

So, count your calories, and use them wisely. You can have treats, as long as you allow for them on your diet plan.

Hi, Simon, welcome! We had someone here a long time ago with that problem, but I can't remember who. I think they were using a high carb diet to add weight. What have you tried?

I am trying to lose weight in fat, and gain in body mass. A normal scale can't be a good indicator. And muscle mass burns calories.
It's not unusual really. Men/boys especially, want to gain muscle weight.

I try to eat more than usual for meals, plus I make shakes with Wt Gain powder, milk, yogart, ect..try to hit healthy foods but with high carbs and especially protein after exercising...
Need about 3000 cals a day to gain plus exercise.
Muscle weighs more than fat, so that's what I concentrate on..
If any advice?

Be sure to get the fat too. Because fat helps testosterone production, and this hormone is good for muscle building. Carbs are good for energy, energy you'll need for exercising.
I read this somewhere. Say you consume 3000 cals one day.
Then Fat should be 30%(900 cals, 100 gramss), carbs 40-50%(1200-1500, 300-570 grams), protein 20-30%(600-900, 150-225 grams)
I hope I'm making sense.
This is from a fitness forum I go to sometimes, but I'm not trying to be a bodybuilder.

Do you exercise at a gym, or by yourself using your own body weight and manuals? What areas do you concentrate on?
