Quote:

Judas had his eye out for the main chance, his best opportunity to serve his own interests. His focus was himself and obtaining his own desires—money mostly (John 12:4-7; 13:27-30). Offering to betray Jesus to the chief priests was another way he could pick up thirty more pieces of silver.
Quote:
It’s possible that he couldn’t conceive of anything other than his personal gain. Not the life and the future Jesus came to bring; not the beating, torture,
crucifixion, or death of Jesus. Judas’ vision was that narrow.

This passage begins and ends with Judas’ words and actions. But the real focal point is Jesus’ words and actions during the same time. Jesus knew his time was short. Still, he looked out for the need of the twelve to celebrate Passover. He was in touch with the Spirit’s guidance to know what to do, and where, and whom to seek out. He made time to enjoy fellowship with his disciples at the table and, moved with compassion, warned them about some of what was coming. No self-absorption there!

We can all identify with Judas on some level, but to do so is to miss the point. Instead, focus on Jesus! Live like him! Tune in to the words and works of the Father; seek to hear from the Holy Spirit; concern yourself with the needs of others.
Quote:
Regardless of what looms ahead, pursue fellowship, and offer your heart, your compassion, and your care to those whom you love. This is how Jesus lived, and it’s how he longs to see us live as well.

This is Holy Week. We can be caught up in what we “need to do” for Easter. We all have many details to tend to before Sunday.
Quote:
Or, we can ask the Holy Spirit to widen our outlook beyond our own lives. Let him help you focus on Jesus. Make time to sit quietly with the Lord, receiving his love and compassion, enjoying him and the time spent in his presence. Let his life and presence in you spill over into your relationships. God knows you and will help you.
“Father, I want to live like Jesus.

I give to you everything I have to do today.
Help me to focus on you
and others for the rest of this week.”
