Default Exercise support thread--week of 3/30/08

Good morning, everyone. It's Divine Mercy Sunday. Pray that God has Divine Mercy on our workouts. It's that time again: time to set goals for the week.

I'm planning on getting back to my regular routine this week. So my goal is to run 26 miles, including an 11 mile long run, and to beat my last time on the long run.

I was going to do my long run today, but the weather isn't cooperating. It's rainy and foggy here. The rain is OK, but won't run in thick fog. I need drivers to see me clearly. So I ran 3 miles on the treadmill this morning, and I'll do my long run tomorrow.

Hi everyone--thanks for doing the thread Michael.

My goals for the week are to get 3 to 4 of my weekly workouts done mid day during my lunch hour. I have gotten away from that, and it is just so nice to have the workout done and over with before I leave work.

My goals are to really start jogging more consistently...3 miles, 3 days per week...we shall see if I can make it.

Yesterday, I did my spinning routine--nearly 9 miles--yay. I was happy, yet felt tired afterwards.

Good luck everyone--week after this, I'm off of work for 10 days with my kids for spring break--can't wait.

My goal this week is to finish my 50 mile race on Saturday. And to let my foot completely heal after I bruised it nicely falling down the side of a mountain while on a run last weekend . So, yesterday was hiking with some friends, Tuesday will likely be a 10-15 mile run in full heat training gear. Same thing on Thursday.

Good news: I got my 11 mile long run dones this morning.
Bad news: I didn't beat my last time. But I'm OK with that. As I started running, I realized that the odds were against me for 2 reasons:

1. I skipped my long run last week, due to Easter.
2. The traffic is much heavier on weekdays than on Sundays, so I often have to stop at intersections. Although I stop my timer at those times, it breaks my momentum.

So, I finished in 1:38:59, which is only 27 seconds longer than my last time. I can live with that.

Sharon, are you doing your 3 mile run outside, or on a treadmill?

Hi Michael--I envy your time. Good for you--that is awesome.

It would be on a treadmill---at work. I was thinking of doing my run around the hotel grounds (we are attached to a hotel)--they have a long trail behind it...away from cars--but, it's getting hot here in Florida. The thing is, I can only use the treadmill for 30 minute intervals--this is the gym policy in the building...so...I need to get much faster in my runs, to make 3 miles in 30 minutes.
But--today I did a power walk with 20 minutes of straight running on the treadmill at work--I was happy about it, because my foot held up.

suat--good luck on your race--50 miles? holy moly.

Sharon, you might want to set a goal of running at a pace of 9:30. That'll get 3 miles done in 28:30, allowing a minute and a half of cool down. Don't be afraid to challenge yourself. Of course, you already know this, but sometimes a reminder is good.

No, I don't know this. LOL! What? Challenge myself?

You know--you are right...I also don't think anyone will stop me if I go over 5 or 10 minutes ...haha see that? I already have myself going over 5...10....minutes, not challenging myself to make the 30-minute criteria.

Sheesh! I didn't mean challenge yourself to break the rules. Don't make me tell PF on you!

LOL--ok--I will try this...9:30 goal. I will try--It will be hard at first, considering that today was my first, longer day of running in a good while. I guess I have been tentative with my foot problem last year...

I will say though--so nice to get the workout done before end of work day! Now only if I coul get up at o'dark hundred....like some people I know...to get it in.

O darn--I was going to say yes. You forget who you are talking to here...unless the house is on fire, and that is also debateable...I'm not getting up at 4 am...ever.

Are you sure about that, Sharon? You sound like you're waffling on that.

Michael it still blows me away that you are doing 11 mile runs. You dah the man.

Sharon 3, 3 mile runs is a great start.

I ve been doing 40 mins on the eliptical 3 days a week and 4 mile runs 3 days a week, plus some stretching & core work.

I had to cut my morning routines down to around 45 min, as I started Praying the Rosary every morning. It was well worth the trade off.

Of course we still walk or bike ride at night and on weekends. Can't wait for this weather to finally break so we can do more of this.

Not bad for an old man, huh? I'm looking forward to the half marathon in June.

I ran 3 more miles this morning, on the treadmill.

On another note, I noticed that I set a new personal high in March, running 110 miles. That's most I've run in a single month.

Frank - can you say the rosary while you are on the eliptical? Just not with beads?

I did my 5 miles yesterday but an taking the rest of the week off. Too much to do before the wedding on sat. I am bringing my running stuff to work out on the cruise ship. I hear the exercise room is fabulous. Hubby will be bringing his stuff too.
