Default Exercise support thread--week of 4/6/08

Welcome to a new week, everyone. Let's set goals for the week. Goals help us stay focussed and on track.

My goals are light this week. I won't be able to do a long run, due to my schedule this week. So I plan to run 3 miles 5 days this week.

Ok, stepped on the scale at the gym on Sunday - NOT PRETTY!

So today I attempt to RESTART my program.

2,200 calories a day, 3 days of weights, 4 days of cardio.

Here's to a good week...

Hi, Nick. You know, you gotta be careful with stepping on the scale. Sometimes it can be discouraging. Other times, it can be motivating. It sounds like it's motivating you. That's a good thing.

So today ended up being a very good start. 2,100 calories + 2 hours of intense cardio and weights + around 4 miles of walking.

Not bad for day 1.

I needed it after having been off of any real working out or watching what I eat for more than 2 months.

How's the running been going? What's your long run these days?

My longs runs are currently 11 miles. I'm really enjoying them. Just me and the road. I've been running 3 miles per day M-F, then 11 miles on Sundays. I take Saturdays off. Hey, good job yesterday. Keep it up.

Hey all, hope you don't mind if I hang out here - I just (re)started my CURVES membership this morning and am looking forward to being slightly less lazy in the weeks to come.

Hi, theistgal. Welcome! I'm delighted to have you join us. We're a friendly bunch, and we love to support each other in our efforts to maintain the Temple of the Holy Spirit.

So tell all about your workout routines, and goals for working out.

Hi! Well, Curves, as you may know, is basically what's called circuit training - they have about 10-12 different resistance* machines; you work out on each one 30 seconds to a minute (depending on various factors) till you've done all of them and/or totaled @ 30 minutes.

I say I (re)started because I joined them when they first opened several years ago; however, I got discouraged (probably prematurely) when I didn't lose any weight after eight months, decided, "Aw shucks, I can just walk up and down the stairs or something and save $40 a month", and quit. What I didn't realize was that even though I hadn't lost any pounds (and only one or two inches), the every-other-day exercise routine itself was really good for me and I should have stuck to it regardless of any lack of "results". (For one thing, it might have helped me deal with the stress of my wedding preparations last year!)

And - since then I've slowly gained about 10+ pounds over where I was when I started. So I decided - I may have a few quibbles with their system but it is definitely better than nothing, which is what my current workout routine consists of.

(and I'm hoping "resistance is useless" doesn't apply here! )

Bet y'all thought I died. Well I didn't. Been laid back a bit. No willpower and I am soooooooooooo ashamed. I haven't lost a darn pound in soooooooo long I could scream. Maybe I should go to the prayer thread and ask for some.

Kathy

P.S. I am still walking.

Went to Disney today everyone--briskly walked...I would dare say...8 miles? Ugh, it feels like even longer. My aching foot.

Yesterday, I also went for a brisk walk...around 2 miles. I hope everyone has a great week...I'm off on vacation this week. Heading for the beach tomorrow or Thursday!

2,225 Calories and a bit of TKD. Class ended up being quite a bit less intense for me than intended because I had to help run it instead of just participating. But I still got some exercise in.

And just think - like a year ago you were doing 2.5 every day. You're a stud!!!
