Allusions Thread
While is might appear that all we are writing are words, words, words, each post in this thread must contain an allusion to literature, music, Scripture, etc. The next post should start off naming the allusion from the previous post and working an new allusion into the thread.

"My Fair Lady" has some wonderful songs, including one with "words, words, words" in it, but the world is full of wonderful things.
Is that what you meant? Some allusions have multiple sources as well. I guess we will cross that bridge when we come to the fork in the road. Or someone might put in multiple allusions and allow the farmer to take his plow as he wills. And some might enjoy throwing the reader into a briar patch, as long as he stayed away from the tar baby.

Hmm. Maybe "My Fair Lady", too. I was thinking Hamlet.

Maybe we should put the allusion in italics so it is obvious and we don't get caught up in a post like Br'er Rabbit.
I'm picturing this thread as something where we can test our knowledge of cultural literacy, making it similar to a room where women come and go, talking of Michelangelo.

"The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock" by T. S. Eliot.
There, I'll respond to my own to set the example. I probably wasn't clear enough in the first post, so what we have here is ... failure to communicate.

Cool Hand Luke.
Okay, I'm going to have to play alone for a bit since nobody else seems interested. Eventually, I'll even get tired. And ...
This is the way the thread ends
This is the way the thread ends
This is the way the thread ends
Not with a bang, but a whimper.

"The Hollow Men"
Nobody is jumping in, so I continue forth. I understand, though, because I, personally, have a problem with contributing to any thread that has a guy like me as a contributor.

Groucho Marx.
Not to worry if you don't have many contributors yet, awfulthings9. Authentic worth is not dependent upon 'population.' After all, one of the people I most admire is from a one-horse town in Ohio.

The Dish
I know. I can't help it if others from this forum do not realize that, for one who digs into the riches of cultural trivia, life is a banquet and most poor suckers are starving to death.

Auntie Mame.
But I think it was better in the original Klingon. An easy one, but some of these are tough.

Chancellor Gorkon.
You may think "some of these are tough", but frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn.

Gone with the Wind.
What, ye spear-danes, do you think of that?

Beowulf?? For some reason I suspect it might be something else, that that's my knee-jerk reaction. This post surely is a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma.

Well, call me Ishmael, but that sounds like Churchhill to me.
