Default Exercise support thread--week of 4/20/08

Good morning, and Happy Sunday, everyone. Welcome to our new thread for the week, and a chance to set new goals. Well, maybe not entirely new. My goals this week are the same as last week: run 26 miles, including a long run of 11 miles in less than 1:40:00.

I'm getting ready to go out for my long run now, so if you read this post within the next 2 hours, say a little pray for me.

So you should be back by now. How'd it go?

My goals:

Sun - cardio (1 hr treadmill DONE!)
Mon - weights & cardio
Tues - cardio & TKD
Weds - break
Thurs - weights & cardio
Fri - break
Sat - weights & cardio

Still trying to master that elusive 2,200 calories a day. I know I can do it because that's what I was doing 4 months ago, but for some reason I'm having a hard time these days.

I'm disappointed. I ran 11 miles in 1:41:48, nearly 2 minutes over my goal. The last two miles I was running into a cold wind, and I just didn't have the energy left to fight it. So my pace slowed down. Oh well. Next time maybe.

Perhaps you and I should work together on this. I need to lose about 30 pounds. But with my work schedule, I'm on the road a lot, and eating in restaurants. It's really hard to lose weight this way.

I went running along the marina in San Diego this morning, and did my 3 miles. It was just beautiful, and I also did my best time ever on a 3 mile run: 25:36

Wouldn't ya know that as soon as I started feeling good and getting into a bit of a groove with my exercise I would go and get sick!!!! No exercise for me yesterday. And I'll probably take today off too. So my next exercise day will hopefully be Thursday.

Nick, don't beat yourself up over getting sick. That's beyond your control. You can still meet your goals for eating. So do what you can, and take care of yourself.

I ran 3 more miles along the marina this morning, and set a new time record for myself: 25:25.

Good morning, everyone!

Well, here's the good, the bad & the ugly on my past week:

The Good: I did two Curves workouts last week, and the only reason I didn't do the third is because my husband and I went to Catalina for our anniversary, where we did a LOT of very healthful (and exhausting) walking! Oh, and also, I weighed in at Weight Watchers on Thursday morning and found I'd lost 3 pounds! Hurray for me!

The Bad: On the last day of our trip, I dropped my suitcase and it clipped the outer edge of my left foot - right smack on the bunion - owie owie owie!!! This kept me from doing a lot of walking from that point on.

The Ugly: My foot was just starting to feel better when, last night, I somehow managed to twist my knee in just the wrong direction and something popped out of place - take those "owies" above and multiply by 1,000 for the pain factor! I was sure I wouldn't be able to walk for the rest of the week.

However, back to The Good again - as I was walking out to my car this morning, the knee seemed to pop back into place, and by the time I got to work it was feeling much better.

So I am hoping I'll be able to get back to my Curves workout tomorrow. But I will definitely modify the exercises if necessary - I don't mind being a martyr, but not to exercise!

Hoping you all have a great week!

theistgal, it sounds like you're doing great, overall. Happy Anniversary, by the way. How many years is it? I haven't been to Catalina in many years. How is it doing?

Take care of that knee, my friend. We don't need you getting any more injured.

Thanks, Michael - and it's one year.

Thanks for the invite

I am a 50 overweight man, I started taking Taekwondo for exercise and strength in February. I have lost several inches off my waist. The weight will come off naturally, now I am just interested in general fitness and strength. I like Taekwondo because it gives me specific goals and I can see progress in extra strength and flexibility and skills attained.

Monday I did machines concentrating on upper body
Tuesday I did legs (kicks) and will take a walk later
Wednesday I will do Taekwondo
Thursday I will do Taekwondo
Friday is my spiritual day, my wife and I go to adoration and I will rest
Saturday I will do dumbbells
Sunday I will do legs (kicks) and cardio

Ted, you've got a comrade here in tkdnick. The tkd in his name means Taekwondo. You two could probably get some real kicks chatting about TKD (pun intended). I like your goals and your plan. Of course, you most important excercise come on Friday. I wish I could join you for Adoration. I just love to go to Adoration. What a blessing you have there.

Yes Michael, you are correct. My wife and I go together. I love going very much. The church I go to has a very large Crucifix and I try to sit on the front row, do my rosary, my prayers for the dead and a few litanies. It really helps me after a long hard week at work.
