Question Why do girls wear white at first communion

my question is this: what is the significance of girls ( and boys) wearing white clothing at their First Communion? Also why do girls wear veils?

White is the symbol of purity and harkens back to the Baptismal garment.

All women wore veils until recently. The traditional first communion garb reflects that tradition.
