Exercise support thread--week of 5/4/08
Good morning, and happy Sunday to you all. It's time to set goals for the week. My goals are back to normal this week. I plan to run 26 miles, including an 11 mile long run, which I'll be doing this morning, God willing.

Re: Exercise support thread--week of 5/4/08
So, I ran 100k+ (~62.4 miles) yesterday with ±10,000 feet gain/loss. Why? That is how long the race was. There were some good miles and some really bad ones, although vomiting does help during the bad ones. So this week my goal is to walk normally again .

Well this is indeed impressive, but my heart goes out to your
ability to vomit on the run! Litterally!
Keep up the good intentions of walking this week, i will pray for all of your aches, bumps and bruises.

SUAT, congratulations on completeing that run. That is absolutely amazing. I guess I shouldn't whine about how hard my 11 mile run was. I just got back. I skipped my long run last Sunday, and didn't run much this past week. So this morning's long run was very hard, but I did it.

You are always free to whine about hard runs, regardless of distance. That is what makes it fun

Re: Exercise support thread--week of 5/4/08
Another week...another failure. Plus, I managed to mess up my elbow doing martial arts on Saturday. So it looks like no weights or anything like that for a little while. My goals are:
Mon: Run
Tues: Run
Weds: Break
Thurs: Run
Fri: Break
Sat: TKD Tournament
Along with that I'm going for 2,400 calories a day.

Yeah, I thought it was crazy until I started doing it. Now it is fun. As to how you do it, just put one foot in front of the other, then repeat. For a long time . That said, I do have some vague memories of the bad times this weekend, but those seem to be disappearing, or at least blurring together. Although I do remember standing at a trail intersection, in the middle of the night, after 61+ miles, and not knowing if I was supposed to go left (uphill) or right (downhill). Neither direction seemed appealing and the lights of the finish were half-way between the two trails. So I stood there with my pacer until the next person caught up and said he thought we should go right. Then he jokingly asked if either of us was carrying a knife because he thought that he would be in less pain if he cut off his foot. (Pacer replied that she had one, but it would be pretty hard to finish if he cut his foot off)
Had lunch with a few friends at work today, including the woman who ran the last 19-20 miles with me. She treated them to some 'great' stories that seemed to always end with me either swearing (mostly), falling (more like tripping), vomiting (occasionally) or mock heroics on her part (apparently I was running (or stumbling) along the trail, in the dark, on the edge of a cliff, ~600 above the ocean and she grabbed my arm and made me walk on the other side). Some I remember, although I have no recollection of the young, hot runner she insisted trying to flirt with me around miles 56-58. Or the cliff.
We both did agree that the trails were simply gorgeous and there was no better way to spend the day. Now that the pain, stiffness and bruises are disappearing, I might try running on Wednesday or Thursday. And I look forward to my next ultra in 7 weeks! .
Oh yeah, and said pacer came to work today limping worse than myself and the other guy who ran the whole 100k. hehe

Re: Exercise support thread--week of 5/4/08
Two car days in a row...my mind needs rest!
Yet i am so sore from swollen ankles
(sitting too long in the car) I just want to cry.
I am going to bed, watch a movie, and try
putting my foot elivated. Not much for excercise,
unless you took my heart rate.
My skin feels like it is going to split.
anyhow, i am praying for others to maintain their goals.
Lost only another two lbs ( total 12 now in a few weeks)
Lana

Re: Exercise support thread--week of 5/4/08
I ran 3 miles on Monday and Tuesday. This morning, I tried to run on my treadmill, but the belt started slipping. So I have to try to fix it later today, and try running this evening.
Lana, you're doing SO good on the weight loss. You make me so proud!

What do you mean ONLY another 2 lbs? That's great that you've lost 12 lbs in the past few weeks! Doctors say the slower it comes off the easier it is to keep off. Keep up the good work!

Re: Exercise support thread--week of 5/4/08
My week hasn't started out overly good. Not overly bad either, but not too great. Monday's exercise was curtailed thanks to mounds of homework & my calorie count was 2,700. Tuesdays run was significantly shorten thanks to falling asleep on the couch when I was supposed to be getting ready for my run. Calories count for yesterday was 2,270. Today is no exercise (unless you count walking to & from the lightrail station).

Nick, you're doing fine. Not great, but fine. Stay focussed, bro! What can we do to help you out?

Could you remove all the food from my house?
Would you do my homework?
Can you teach my classes?
Will you heal my injured elbow?
