Elaborating on why I left in 1989 would require a book. But I really was trying to do what I thought God wanted. I was a seminarian and it was a lack of pastoral car that caused me to stumble so hard. It's just a fact. The more isolated you are combined with length of time and the intensity of the proselytizers along with personal family issues because of your Catholic faith...the more at risk you are of falling away. But thankfully, God called me home with my entire family. I left as one and returned as 5.

I was a very disciplined Catholic going to Eucharistic Adoration a couple times a year at least, confession at least once per month and mass at least two or three times per week. I left Catholicism for the Angican church and felt the renewal of the Holy Spirit in my life like a fresh drink of ice cold water on a very hot day. I hadn't felt the Holy Spirit like this in years and it kind of scared me. I have a great loving parish with a wonderful spirit filled priest and I couldn't imagine leaving what I have now. Thank God my son is being raised in this loving place of God learning about the Sacrements, receiving Holy Communiuon every Sunday and learning about the Scriptures and the Traditions of the Early Church.

Yep...typo...sorry about that... I just wanted to see if you were paying attention...
I hate it when that happens, especially when it’s too late to edit…oh well...
Thanks…

Re: How “Catholic” were you before leaving the Catholic Church? Which one of these bests describes you?
I was in discussion with the nuns who ran my high school (Franciscan) about becoming a nun.
I spent my lunch breaks in chapel in adoration in high school.
Had received all the sacraments of initiation.
Yet, looking back, and after talking with people who are deeply Catholic as adults, I know there was something in me that was never really Catholic. It was how I played out my very real and deep spirituality, but I never fully believed the doctrines.
I was good with the moral stuff, and spiritual disciplines, but not the theology.

Wow, talk about slanted! You forgot one option, those who lived and defended the faith until seeing through the illusion.

I don't see any illusions. Maybe you would care to elaborate?

The illusion of man-created teachings of control rather than the Word of God, as Jesus criticized.

Re: How “Catholic” were you before leaving the Catholic Church? Which one of these bests describes you?
I was baptized, received First Communion, and was confirmed, but I never understood my Catholic faith. I left for 5 years in my twenties. Then I read the Bible. After reading the Bible, I began to understand and returned. Then I studied in adult education classes at my parish and joined a Bible study at my parish. Reading the Bible showed me the truth of the Catholic Church.
