Default Exercise support thread--week of 6/1/2008

HAPPY NEW MONTH!

It's also the beginning of a new week, so time to set our goals for the week.

This is gonna be my big week. This is the week I've spent the last year preparing for. My plan is to run 11 miles this morning, then 2 miles per day, Monday - Thursday. I'll take Friday off, in preparation of my Half Marathon on Saturday (13.1 miles). That'll be 32.1 miles for the week.

I just got back from my 11 mile run; likely my last 11 mile run for a long time. Following my half marathon next Saturday, I plan to reduce my long runs to 8 miles, at least until next March.

Why is that?

I took on the project of stripping my hardwood floors - 310 sq feet.
This was my project - the husband was too busy to help so I knew what I was in for. The drum sander was easy to use but after 10 hours of sanding, my arm muscles were on fire. I grew up in my dad's woodworking shop so I have tendencies toward woodworking perfection. I sanded till every floor board was spanking perfect.

All that after I went to the gym for strength training - my mistake.

No strength training tonight, but I will hit the gym at lunch for aerobics.

All of my training has been leading up to this half marathon on Saturday. After that, I plan to cut my long runs to 8 miles, just to stay in shape. However, I still plan to do a couple races a year. These would be a 15K in December, and a half marathon in June. So, next March, I start ramping my long runs up, in preparation for the half marathon next June.

Did my 45 min bike class & ended the day at 2,690 calories. A little higher than I wanted. Guess that's what I get for not really paying attn to what I'm eating. Guess that means I'll have to eat a bit less tomorrow.

So far, I'm on target for the week. I've run 15 miles this week.

The forecast for Saturday is perfect. At race time, it should be around 60, and sunny. This race always takes place the first Saturday in June, and I can remember one year, maybe 12 years ago, when it poured that day! But the runners loved it.
