Left hand of God
This came up on another board that I am a member of. Who sits at the left hand of God.
I have never wondered about this.
Anyone know?

Re: Left hand of God
I always thought that it used to be Satan before his fall but I could be horribly wrong on this.

Re: Left hand of God
The Father is pure spirit and does not have hands. I think the real point is the highest seat for anyone to have is to be the right hand man, or at someone's right hand. The point is to say there is none more important than our Lord as he is one with God (and is God).
It is like Peter and the keys Christ entrusted him with, they were not real keys they were used to show what God was doing through Peter.
Hope this makes sence, remember all of God is everywhere all the time.

Re: Left hand of God
IN many cultures, the right hand was occupied by the most important heir to the throne, or in other cases, the highest advisor or military man. The left hand, the one closest to the heart, was the queen's or queen-mother's. By this thought, it would be the Blessed Mother.

Re: Left hand of God
This doesn't answer the question, but I thought it was very cute. When in Church yesterday, my 3 year old son sang a prayer. It went like this. "give glory to God in the Highest, Christ has died, Christ has risen, Christ is seated at the right hand of God now the left hand and then the right hand again. He will come back to get us to go to heaven. through thy bounty Christ our Lord (or how he says Lord Yord)

Re: Left hand of God
If I'm not mistaken, dfaithjohn was referring to the Van Helsing movie in which the main character has no memory of who he is or where he came from. The only answer he's given is that Drakula calls him "Gabriel" and the "Left Hand of God". I, too, am curious about the origins of this term. Given the heavy, albeit fictional, influence of the Catholic Church in the movie, it seems to me that the term should have some basis in the traditions of the Church. Any help anyone can provide in answering this question would be appreciated.

Re: Left hand of God
Actually, I wasn't referring to the movie at all. Haven't even seen it yet. I was so confused when someone answered Van Helsing. This question was posed to a friend by a non-Catholic friend.
Yes, I know God is all-Spirit. But, if you are going to have a right hand, why not a left? I just thought it was a very interesting question and one I had not thought of before.
I knew that the right hand was the place of highest honor. I did not know that the left hand was reserved for the one closest to the heart. Although isn't that why we wear our wedding rings on the left?

Re: Left hand of God
The right hand is the hand of mercy where the Judge in the Old Testament would give pardon. The right hand is also for the sheep going to heaven but the left hand is for judgement and the goats going to hell. The judge is God so doing what He says is important ! God Bless
