Nostalgia Thread
I joined back in '05, which is not as long ago as some posters on this forum, but I still have a bit of nostagia to share. Feel free to share your own nostalgia here too!
Do you remember...
The person who tried to convince us that sugar was a tool of the devil and that we should deny our children sugary treats and refrain from it ourselves also? I think his name was JButtrey. He kept at it for a while despite many people telling him the idea was absurd.
Paris Blues / Jerusalem? If you were on the forums at the time I think it would have been nearly impossible not to notice her... a recent convert from Protestantism with a million questions, mood swings (every second day she'd want to leave the church, every other day she'd be writing how much she loved it), and scrupulosity ("Is it a sin to watch the world cup?") She converted to Judaism at one point and I don't know what became of her after that.
The atheist whose name I can't remember, I think it began with H, who had fairly decent arguments against the existence of God having to do with, why would God allow us to make choices that could cause us to end up in Hell?
For example the boat question... "If you're an adult and you row out in a boat with a child, push him into the water and he drowns, is that bad?" (Of course). "What if you row out with him and he jumps into the water and drowns?" (Not as bad, but still wrong 'cause of your neglect). "Now, what if you row out with him, instruct him strongly not to jump in the water, but he still does and he drowns?" Then he'd explain that the adult is like God and we are like the child.
I never did figure out how to refute his argument so I ended up ignoring it. Lots of people had a go though.

Re: Nostalgia Thread
Elementary school memories: recess; death drops on the monkey bars; Italian aides always yelling "basta!" at us for running; the Catholic church's bells sounding from across the street right before the school bell; having to walk to the right of the red line painted down the center of the hallway; fire drills and subsequent addresses by the principal on fire safety over a bullhorn as we shivered in lines on the playground; kids walking to CCD every Wednesday and me wondering what they did in there (I converted in high school); not even dreaming of calling a teacher anything but Mr. or Mrs. X; the whole class being called to the library on the day President Reagan was shot to watch the video, then being sent home early; early release on Thursdays to go to an old lady's house for Bible class.

Re: Nostalgia Thread
I remember the TVs brought into class so that we could see Alan Shepard and then John Glenn go into space.
I remember the Cuban missle crisis in far too great a detail.
I remember Sister announcing to us over the PA system that President Kennedy had been shot and killed.

Re: Nostalgia Thread
I'd join this thread, but I'm afraid nostalgia just isn't what it used to be.

Re: Nostalgia Thread
I would post some of my past memories if I could remember what they were.

Re: Nostalgia Thread
Is this thread just for CAF nostalgia, or anyone's extraforensic nostalgia?

Re: Nostalgia Thread
The only problem with nostalgia and getting older.....you tend to forget it.
Just showing how old we're all getting.....one of the actresses who played Marilyn Munuster in season two (Pat Priest) turned 72 on 8/15!
BTW; the other actress in season one was Beverly Owen.

Yes, I remember her threads. I wonder what happened to her?
