Default Protests at WYD

Sorry but I really found this quite... irritating.

Protest Against Pope

Quoted from wikipedia:
Quote:
Other specific protests stated to be planned against World Youth Day have said they will be using philosophical or political slogans such as "Religion harms us by privileging faith over reason." and "Let's solve our problems by reasoning together with compassion, not dogma" and "Badly needed community services were robbed to pay the Pope".
Source

This is not the first time I've seen something like this. But the fact that some people have the gall to ruin something that many Catholic youth look forward to is just... sickening.

from the article:

Karl Hand, pastor of the Metropolitan Community Church, "the home of inclusive Christianity", said he hoped there would be no confrontation between protesters, pilgrims and police, but he would not be surprised if it occurred.

He said the Catholic Church misrepresented Christianity and was "extremely uncompassionate towards people who need condoms, abortions, recognition of their relationship

sorry, but these are not needs.

Mr. Hand needs to get a grip on reality.

I hope the Catholics at WYD will respond to these people with love and compassion and let them know that the Church IS inclusive of all people.

We just don't condone sin.

Their comment of the pope's anti-abortion beliefs is misrepresenting what Christians are all about is far fetched. This is just another group who wants the whole world to conform to their beliefs. It is sad them trying to manipulate the Catholic youth. The devil never rests.

Oh well, they'll have their day of trial. I just pray that they repent before it's too late.

This would be humorous if it wasn't so sad.

Actually, we DO "recognize" those "relationships".......as SIN.

I hope that the pilgrims will carry their rosaries and voice very clearly the Fatima prayer we say between the decades: Oh my Jesus, forgive us our sins. Save us from the fires of hell. Lead all souls to heaven -- ESPECIALLY THOSE MOST IN NEED OF YOUR MERCY!!
These are the people we pray for.

It's their right in a free and democratic society.

A society that doesn't have the right to peaceful protest, likely wouldn't have the right to freedom of religion.

Pray for them. Some of those that persecuted the Faith in the past have proven to be our best supporters.

I read one article in which protesters said 400 pilgrims had accepted condoms on the way into Randwick. Hopefully, they "accepted" them in order to throw them in the nearest trash bin... which is what I would have done.

Some of the pictures of the protesters were really gross, particularly of "Pope Alice" and someone who stated they were there to teach the pilgrims how to use condoms. I'm grateful to God to have the sense to be repulsed by spectacles like that.

Rather wasteful don't you think.

As far as Catholics at WYD accepting or using condoms....judge not lest ye be judged.

Throwing them out? Wouldn't that be rather wasteful and contrary to ecofriendliness?

Your biases and accepted stereotypes are most likely responsible for your revulsion....not God.

Of course....imo.

I haven't always been a practicing Catholic and was quite lost for some time and this type of display would not have phased me, so, you are wrong. I'm thinking, in particular, of being a student and walking through the red light district of Amsterdam with other students touring the city and finding it somewhat amusing and shocking, but the repulsion that I feel about these kinds of scenes today is something recent. I literally feel the presence of evil when I see stuff like this now. It is only by the grace of God that I am now repulsed by these kinds of messages of sexual immorality.

I found it quite humorous when they handed one to a 13 year old girl and she told them so. a major tv network was watching at the time.

Seems to me that she is clearly a bigot who fears Jesus' teachings.
Ms Evans, 33, who represents Community Action Against Homophobia and whose father was a Uniting Church minister, said the coalition would notify police of its route in the next couple of days but she feared the NSW Government "wants to be heavy-handed with protesters".

She feared the Pope's teachings (which are Jesus' teachings)contributed to 67,000 women dying every year from backyard abortions and a suicide rate among gay youth that is seven times the average.

"He is clearly a bigot ... many in the Catholic Church are also raising these issues, condemning the Pope for his hateful ideas."

Read the bold.

Of course this is my bold and parentheses.
Got the above from this site that the OP referred to at:
http://www.smh.com.au/news/national/...073209465.html

We have tons of people to pray for don't we?
