Talking Family blogs or websites?

I've noticed that lots of families (and several CAF ladies) have blogs or websites with updates and pictures for their friends and family to view. I'm seriously considering starting one but would love some pointers as I am not the most computer savvy person out there.

Are there free ways to have a blog?

What are the best sites?

Is there a way to limit access?

Would you recommend it?

Thanks so much!

I'm definitely not a seasoned blogger, so I'm sure others know much better, but I got my free blog through google - I think it's called Blogger. I like it, but it's very simple and I haven't updated it in months!

Im not really computer savy at all either. Dh showed me how to post pics and I just write stuff and post pics. Its pretty easy. Blogger is free and all you need is a gmail email account. There is a way to limit access not sure how though.
I love blogging.... it lets all my friends and family that live far away see what we do everyday and see how our daughter grows. It also gives me a creative outlet to write stuff. I would recommend it- IF you plan on keeping it up. I get so annoyed when people don't update it for dayyyyyyys on end. If you don't keep it updated you will lose your readers.

We have one on Blogger - it is very easy to start up an maintain. Our families are all over this country as well as England and Scotland, so it is a way to keep in touch and for my husband to be his very normal crazy self.

I much prefer this to one of the other "social sites" like Face Book. Those places creep me out.

I use wordpress.
It's free.
I can make any post or the entire thing private or password only or everyone can see.
It auto filters comments for spam, so I really don't have any comment problems, but I can filter them myself too if I wanted or completely shut them off. Which I don't like to do - I like conversation!

Yes - wordpress is good. If you want another easy one, just go to http://www.blogger.com/ (it's run by Google). I had all of my college freshmen create blogs and it was great to see their stuff!

My link is in my signature .... I started the blog back last summer, then didn't touch it again, until I found out we were having twins. I used the blog to update my family/friends, post pictures, etc.

Totally free ... blogger.com. You can set it that folks have to be 'invited' to view it, or make it public. I'd highly recommend it, and I think it's pretty easy.
