Default Anyone else sick after WYD?

I didn't go, but a woman from our parish, along w/ some other folks, are really sick. The CDC got involved and decided it's the Australian flu. Supposedly it was flu season over there.

Well it is flu season - and some of the pilgrims did indeed get sick, that's pretty much inevitable with any such large gathering of people who are in close contact with each other for a few days.

The stresses of travelling long distances to get here, and then being extremely active and busy whilst here, then sleeping outdoors as many did in rather cold temperatures, all knocks out the body's immune system. Combine that with coming into contact with hundreds of thousands of other people, carrying goodness knows what germs, and it's gonna happen.

I know last time I went on an extended trip overseas (as part of which I spent two weeks studying in Germany with a big group of other students) I similarly got ill, for most of the same reasons (didn't sleep outdoors though, hate to think how much worse I would've been if I had!)

Our priest is on his way home now (they stayed an extra week to sight-see) and he feels OK.

I swore off going anywhere by plane this summer. That's partly because of the prices, but mostly because I went several places last year and got some kind of illness every time I went by plane.

My mother went overseas a few months ago and she got sick too - mind you Dad, sis, BIL and niece who went with her were all fine. Go figure.

This year for the first time in years I took precautions and got a flu jab. Mainly because over the last year at my new job I've already been sick far more frequently than is usual for me. Working well so far but there's still over a month of winter left - not to mention early spring which also seems to be a good time for the lurgies.

I just returned home from WYD and now I am starting to feel a little ill. Some of my group members became ill while in Australia and I am sure it's just a chain reaction. my symptoms are not too extreme, similar to a mild cold...for now. What a trip! the Holy Father is amazing!

My friend who went is really sick. When she went to the doc, they made her take her paperwork outside; they did not want her in the office. Her hubby said she could barely talk and hardly get out of bed. I hear she's a bit better today.

Many of our group members have colds, and a few got the flu. Luckily, I only have a cold...but I've had it for over a week now, and it's getting really annoying...
