Default Quoting and web links

Could somebody please explain how to quote from a previous post and how to include a web link - in terms a four-year old could understand? (No, make that a 3-year old; the 4-year old already understands this stuff.) Please start from square 1. Bulleting would be good. I can't seem to get it...
Thank you SO much!

Hey

To quote:

You can
- click on the quote button on the bottom of the post you'd like to quote
- highlight the section of text you're writting and click on the quote icon in the text editor
- or old school is putting in the tags yourself where you want.

As an example to get the following:
Quote:

Stay tuned for the Linking part next

Linking Class Part II

Linking pictures:

Our example: (I just love this image)

When you click the picture, it takes you to Catholic Answers (imagine that?).

How to:
Old School (the preferred method of your personal instructor )
Type in: [url="http://www.catholic.com/"][IMG]http://forums.catholic.com/images/misc/maryandchild_cab.jpg[/IMG][/url]

How to:
Text Editor
You have to know the URL of the image you are going to use. In this case I went to the Catholic Answers home page and got the URL from the image by right clicking the image and selected Properties. In the Properties screen it has the URL. Double click the URL text and the whole string will highlight. Once highlighted right click and select copy (or depress Control + v). That address is now stored in your PC's memory. Now go back to your text editor.

In the text editor window click on the image icon and paste the URL of the other image in the window and click OK.

You will see this in the text editor screen:

[IMG]http://forums.catholic.com/images/misc/maryandchild_cab.jpg[/IMG]

and when you click the Preview Post button you'll see the image.

Now highlight the text, the whole thing that says:
[IMG]http://forums.catholic.com/images/misc/maryandchild_cab.jpg[/IMG]
and then click on the link icon (remember which one it is? hint - it looks like this:)

Add the URL to the text window, in our example that's: http://www.catholic.com/.

Click on the Preview Post button and see if it worked.

Now for fun copy ALL the text in the Text Editor window and paste it into a Word document and run it through spell checker.

If you need to make any corrections do so in Word. Copy the whole corrected text back into your Text Editor and hit the Preview Post button one last time just to verify your work.

If you are happy, click on the Submit Reply button. Now sit back and wait for the praises of your message posting to come pouring in. OK so, it's a long wait. But you did it all the same.

b_justb - are you there?

Could you please help me learn how to attach an image to a post, or my sig line?

I copied and pasted your instructions above; however, it simply isn't working. My anti-virus blocks it as soon as I hit the image icon, but I tell it to temporarily allow access, but after pasting the URL, I do not get the [IMG] in front of it.....then you say hit ok?
Sorry, what OK? When I go to preview, only the URL address is in the text box.

Sorry - I'm very technologically challenged!

I really appreciate your help.

If you are doing it manually, and it sounds like you'll have to because of some sort of pop up blocker, then you have to add the [img] tag's yourself.

type in[IMG]<the URL of the image>[/IMG]

and see if that works.

Hurray! Thank you so much b_justb!
I presume if I see a red "x" that image must be copyrighted? So one must always preview first so you'll know this is the case before posting???

The red X (like this one) just means the URL you are trying to use to post your picture is not valid.

Glad you got it Now go make everyone on CAF envious of your posting prowess
