We did carry some Bummis but we are clearing them out, and only have small sizes left. I am soooo tempted to buy one of the newborn size flower prints for next time around...but I'm not sure if that's being too presumptive!
So what did you buy???? Do tell!!!
Okay.. so I washed my pre folds 5 times in hot water... I am guessing they aren't quite prepped all the way.. I lined it with a fleece liner and covered it with a Thirsties cover. DD soaked it in an hour.. She didn't leak through those trustie Thirsies but the pre fold was SOAKED all the way through. Is this normal? Just need some more washings??/ Also.. any certain fold that people have preference too? I did the standard newspaper fold. But it seems sort of hard to get a good seal around the legs...

I just got back from purchasing 4 premium Chinese pre-folds and a Thirsties cover. I have to do the prep washing. I feel like I read somewhere to wash 8 times... I can't find my little info packet. Waiting for St Anthony to hook me up.

As for folds...here's some pics of a few different kinds... http://www.greenmountaindiapers.com/howto.htm
I'll be playing with those pretty soon.

As far as the pre-fold being soaked...sounds pretty normal to me...although if it was just an hour....I don't know. It will probably get more absorbent as time goes on, but as long as you didn't have any wicking you should be ok. Other mamas who actually have experience with pre-folds should be able to help more.

ETA Oh yeah and I think I might get one or 2 cricketts......still debating

For Grace, a totally soaked prefold in one hour isn't normal. But then she's not a big drinker now that the mommy fountain is closed . Maybe you caught your dd after a good wet wet.

I don't know what fold I use but the back is open and I fold it together in thirds in the front and pull that up over dd and then pull the wings from the back around and snappi them over the tri-folded part. Does that have a name? It takes a little practice to get the legs tight but now that she's on solids it doesn't really matter anymore.

Have you checked out the dream-eze fitted at montana's diaper store? www.mtdiaperstore.com they are also at nicki's I think. It's what I usually use for Grace's naps but like I said in my pp, she's not a super heaver wetter so it's hard to say-but I've read on the diaper pin that lots of moms of heavy wetters like them for nights, sometimes with a doubler.

Wicking is when the wetness 'wicks' through the cover...onto everything else! You don't want it. The whole idea is for the cover to be waterproof. And it can happen in any kind of diaper--I've had pickets wick worse than PFs.

And yes, my G will often soak through a PF in an hour. Sometimes she'll go 2-3 hrs. Depends on how much she drinks and when.

Lol, I was reading the posts from the last one up and was planning on asking what wicking was, until I saw you asked (well, lol, saw that Teak had answered someone asking). Anyways, lol, I'm still not quite sure what it is. Is it like the cover wicks the wetness out, like it goes thru the cover evenly, like the cover gets wet? Lol, I've been meaning to ask what wicking was too, lol. The image I had was somehow little rolls of the material the cover was made of on the inside of the cover (like the wick of a candle or oil lamp), meaning the cover had thinned out on spots and had little rolls on other spots, hahaha. Thanks for asking BlessedbyGodx2!

LOl.. no kidding! I felt so dumb but I think if I understand it correctly wicking is basicially leaking? So if a diaper cover wicks then the clothes get wet because the diaper is basically leaking though right?
There is so much to learn about this cloth diapering business! Good thing its fun!

Ok, so it is leaking thru the cover itself, not the sides or just some spots? Is it because the PUL "breathes" and if it is too wet inside it just allows some sort of liquid traveling or something?
Blessed, you seem to be catching on here better than I am .
Lol, Teak, could you explain it to me too? I am a bit slow in the cloth diapering arena...

Generally, wicking occurs around the leg openings.... If the diaper gets beyond saturated, the "liquid" has to go somewhere.

OH if you knew how that made my morning.

Also I agree w/ your previous definition of wicking...seems to happen at the openings of the cover.

I noticed that the fabric that lines the edges of the PUL gets wet and THAT'S what gets the clothes wet...usually from the dipe being overly soaked.

ok when I prep my pre-folds please tell me I don't have to use detergent every time....that's a lot of detergent!

Ok, if you like pockets, you gotta try knickernappie disposanots. I started them on Julie when she was around a year old. I got larges, but I remember thinking they would have fit her long before that since they are super adjustable. She wore them until she potty trained. Today I put the same large diaper on my 3 month old! And it fits! IT's a little long, but it fits! It's like a one size diaper without actually being a one sized diaper I don't like the bulk of most one sizes and have stayed away from them. I'm going to post a picture later of the two girls in the same diaper.

Good definition.

And am I really the only one here who uses picket diapers? Ya just hang 'em on the fence to dry!
