Talking You Know You're a Band Geek When...

  • You find yourself walking, tapping, talking, knitting, writing etc etc, in beat with what ever song is in your head.
  • You hear a beeping, dinging or ringing and you go " one two three four, one and two and three and four and, one e and a two e and a three e and a four e and a" etc etc.
  • You and your friends start getting into a dabate about which section has the harder music.
  • You DO NOT walk in the brass section. enough said.
  • You like to gross out the woodwinds with your spit key
  • You live in constant fear of getting an eye poked out with a baton.
  • You are listining to music and find your self fingering along

God bless
~Betsy

When you clean out your purse, you find wallet, lipstick, loose change, snack crumbs, feminine supplies, and cracked reeds!

When you wonder why there are letters past "G" on an alphabet chart but no "#"s or "b"s next to any of them.

What a weird person you are.

I mean I play the trumpet, can mess around on a keyboard, snare and bass, along with a bass voice, but I am not geek.

I hate American band music!!!

It sounds like, no, it is circus music.

Nothing like Prussian marches at full blast!

In countries with real tradition they play that stuff.

The US is too well, American.

In every country every regiment has their style and adaptations to the uniform.

In the US it is all the same and all the same music.

No doubt, the drums are the best (maybe the Swiss beat us).

But appart from drum solos, the music is cheesy.

To go to war hearing that is like going to war with clown shoes and a dancing puppy.

Um, thanks, Pro Domina?

Actually, to be honest, I think I share the same opinion with you about our marching band music.

Pro Domina, did you come here just to insult Americans, or did you have anything to add to the discussion?

This was a humor thread, BTW.

Aww. You got angry.

Maybe the Gladiators march will cheer you up.

It is music thing. The OP got it.

Plus I am American. At least I was born and raised in the U.S.A.

That I am like most Americans I think not.

Americans are peculiar. Anyone know your one a mile away.

At least tourists anyways. But then if they are not in the US then they are most probably tourists.

You've got to admit it.

you know you are a band booster geek when . . .
. . . you still have turkeys in the freezer from last year's sale
. . . you will be eating band grapefruit until July
. . . you spend every Friday night in the concession stand, and never see a game, and only hear the halftime show, but its okay, because you have been to rehearsals every morning with juice and apples for the kids

. . . your jewelry box is full of photo buttons of your band-member kids and their band-member friends

. . . your favorite holiday event is Tuba Christmas

. . . your last 4 summer vacations have been spent chaperoning band camp

. . . you have ridden on the bus with the equipment to 3 bowl games and two inaugural parades

. . . watching Script Ohio on TV still chokes you up and Hank On Sloopy still makes you stand up proud.

Gee! You are the Queen Mother of Band Geeks!

I was never a geek, but I did sell cheesecakes.

The director was a dictator and would fail you if you did not bring him money.

To fail band you have to be a complete idiot.
So I sold some cheesecakes. Mainly to myself.

I made me an offer I couldn't refuse.

Oreo Cheesecake!!!

Check out these websites.

The greatest band in the world (with a great selection of music under their audio resources section):
http://www.marineband.usmc.mil/

A fine high school group I am honored to work with:
http://www.mightyrebelband.com/Home.html

If you don't like Sousa, you probably weren't paying attention. It is superbly crafted music.

Imagine crusaders charging for a decisive battle to regain the Holy Land to the tune of Washington Post.

SOUSA IS CIRCUS MUSIC!

I am having a REALLY hard time with your consistent slamming of our military and its traditions! DO YOU HAVE A POINT? Or are you just bent on hatefulness toward the men and women who fight for our freedom?

I am really trying to be like this but it's getting extremely hard!
