Exercise support thread--week of 8/31/2008
Hey, everyone! I'm a day late in getting the thread started. It's been one heck of a busy weekend. But it's not too late to set goals for the week. I'll be running tomorrow through Friday, 3 miles per day, so I'll be running just 12 miles this week.

Re: Exercise support thread--week of 8/31/2008
Sat-Sun = played in the kiddie pools with my son and hubby where we go swimming.
Mon = 25 laps (45 mins) of swimming the breast stroke.
Tues = Water aerobics 60 mins
I forgot about there being water aerobics on Monday nights at 8pm so I was wayyy too early for that (got there at 6pm) so I opted out on the aerobics and did laps instead. So next week at least I know I can do water aerobics Mon, Tues and Weds, and then swim laps on Thursday evening och Friday morning.
Hugs!!!

Re: Exercise support thread--week of 8/31/2008
322.8 this morning...up a bit again. First goal is to get back to 299.0 lbs...i will try hard with kids in school to acomplish this this week. I know it is a lot, but i am sure 10 of these lbs is fluid in my ankles only. This can only be removed with water pills when this gets this bad. I was unable to get off the chair last night and stand. I tried hard, but kept falling. Once i was down, it takes more strength in my ankles to get up. This happens about once ever two-three months. Falling is not an option for me, as there is no one to help me up. I do not like takeing these, but this few days (tues-friday) i will take them.
Of course, laps to the bathroom are not really on a trail, but i am going to also do some low impact arobics for 45 min this morning, and increase my water (ewww, hate water, but will do it) and start watching my flour based carbs, and increase the good carbs (fruits and veggies)
I am out of breath too much in this humidity, and incredibly thirsty. Drank nearly a litre of milk at bed time last night.
So i plan to go from 322.8 down to 299...lets see how far i can make it!

OK - how can we help encourage you? Don't get discouraged - but remain hopeful that you can do this. And YOU can!
Man this weather does not help in motivating at all. Being that you and I have the same weather patterns, I can relate.
Make sure your milk is also fat free. That really can make a big difference if you are drinking a glass or 2 a day.
If you cannot do 45 min- then do 20 min a few times a day. Break it up. Just as effective.
Love and hugs.

I would NOT recommend fat-free ANYthing... eww! But then again, I do LCHF (low carb high fat). We eat good natural fats, and lots of 'em with our proteins and veggies.
I began on Aug 1st @ 282 lbs and am now 264.5 lbs! I've got so much energy and feel excellent
So I'd recommend LCHF to everyone I see. It's a lifesaver.

Wow - impressive. That is really fabulous. Great success.
Though I do stick whole heartedly to fat free- skim milk and fat reduced ice cream products.
Got to agree with you on other fat free products though in general. Moderation, with all things, is always prudent.
That is just going to have to be an area that we will have to disagree on

But fat free (light) products (i.e. margarine, skim milk, etc) are full of chemicals and sugars. Margarine is close to being plastic, chemically. I will never go back to margarine once I found out that in 2003... eek..
But yep, we all gotta agree to disagree

Re: Exercise support thread--week of 8/31/2008
Well i made it through 20 minutes and my ankles were too unsteady to continue...but it was an attempt with sucess, because i tried.
As for the rest of the day, i ate a sandwich, and a cup of tea, and am down 4.5 lbs...gosh i hope i am done peeing!
So now i am 318.0 and i can walk on my ankles without pain. The pain comes from how tight they get. The tighter they are, the less ability to stand on them or bend them. Plus, i am breathing better.
I apreciate all of the encouragement girls, it helps with motivation. As for the milk, it was simply because i had the choice of water, milk or pepsi...it takes a few days for me to get into water, but once i am there, i like it. Otherwise, i only drink milk if i have heartburn, or am dunking cookies...and at that, it is only maybe once a month.
Low carb, high protieen and natural fats are my best results. Flour based carbs kill my ankles, headaches, and joints. When i reduce them, i usually end up not hurting much at all. There are good carbs, fruits and vegies.
So i try to eliminate any processed foods, and this is more costly, but planning ahead helps a lot.
So untill tommorrow, thanks again...
Going to check out that site.

good for you! 20min is success indeed. Can you try some muscle building exercises while you are sitting? Like leg lifts while you are sitting and arm weights? If you do not have arm weights, you can use canned goods. You can even fill a plastic jug with water if necessary.
There are tons of office exercise websites.
Reason being, if you increase your muscle mass you will also burn more cals. But one does not need to go to a gym to do it.

I wish i could do swimming and water arobics...there is a "y" so close to us, but in order to use the pool and gym, membership is well over a grand a year. We just moved trying to reduce fixed bills, and avoid bankrupcy. So this huge chunk is way too much to wish for.
The only low impact excercise workout i have ever been able to do is the orriginal richard simmons workout. Have three others, and i can not do them.
The standing instability is not in the leg, it is in the ankle and joints of the foot. I am quite flat footed to begin with, but the pain is a catch 22. You see...foot swelling, doc says stay off it, and put feet up. So i do. Yet i have to get moving, and this requires NOT sitting and putting feet up.
The "y" here has a ramp so the innital hauling myself out of the pool doesn't have to be done. So to do things for ankle strength sitting leaves me at a loss.
and thanks for the help again girls!

Re: Exercise support thread--week of 8/31/2008
Last night I didn't feel strong enough to do water aerobics in the evening. So I stayed home and did a 1 mile workout (15 mins) with Leslie Sansone instead. I have the vcr hooked up so I can use old Leslie tapes as well as Richard Simmons tapes. I do have dvds by them, too. Alex even did the workout with me, LOL, and Magnus ran on the Orbitrek elliptical.
So this is how I'll do my exercise weeks -- Monday and Tuesday evenings are Water Aerobics (1hr). Wednesday evenings are dvd/vhs workout at home. Thursday (PM) and Friday (AM) are for Swimming Laps for an hour. Weekends are rest days.
I really was psyched about going swimming last night but my muscles were telling me something else. So I did the WATP workout nice and easy and not intense. I still sweatted Which is always good!

It's been a very busy week for me, but I've managed to stick with my running routine.
It's great to see the commitment with everyone else here. Lana, you're doing awesome! What a trooper you are. You inspire me.
