Default Exercise support thread--week of 9/14/2008

Good morning, and Happy Sunday. Welcome to the new thread for the Exercise Support Group. It's time to set goals for the week. My goal is to run 23 miles, including an 8 mile long run. I'll be heading out in a few minutes for the long run.

Hi, Lana. You're killing me! How can I type when you're making me laugh so hard!

Hey, where's Sharon been? She could relate to your foot issues. She's had foot problems for the past two years.

Hey Michael...glad to make you laugh...it is better than sucumbing to anger or giving up...so laughter must prevail right now!

Sharon...ah ha...i knew there was someone who loved running, but could not...so here it is, if running and/or feet are a damper,
how does one try and excercise and get fit?

Lana

I ran 8 miles yesterday, and 3 more today, so I'm on track for the week. Tomorrow may be a little tricky, as I have to get up early to catch a flight to Seattle. So I won't be running in the morning tomorrow. I'll have to run in the evening.

Lana, I'll see if I can track down Sharon, and get her back in here.

Hi there. Lana, I am sorry about the foot. I was also gonna mention Sharon, though Michael beat me to it.

I do believe she has been resting it for a while and had cortisone.

I also have plantar fasciitis and have shoe inserts that have completely changed my life the min. I got them. I was not even able to walk pain free through a grocery store. I could be on a commercial with my testimony.

So many prayers to you for recovery.

I made 32 miles this week. I headed to the gym at lunch and forgot my gym clothes. sheesh. Maybe tonight.

Ouch! I can relate. I've had a few times when I took off on a business trip without running shorts. That's when I head to a local Target or Walmart to get some cheap shorts.

Well it's been so far, so good for me this week. Yesterday I got in some weights & ended with 1,660 calories. Today I went for a run, will do some TKD tonight, and am on pace for less than 1,800.

My goals for the rest of the week are 2,000 calories a day and

Tue: run
Wed: break
Thu: run, weights, & tkd
Fri: tkd
Sat: weights & tkd (and maybe a run too)

So far, so good. I'm on track with my running, but tomorrow I'll have to run in the evening. Not my favorite time for this, but it'll have to do.

I gotta tell ya, I usually run on a treadmill at the gym. This morning I ran outside & it was really nice. 5:30 in the morning, nice & cool, no one else around. I really enjoyed it.

I know what you mean. The only day I run outside is Sundays, when I do my long run. Other than that, it's always on the treadmill. I don't think I could do 8 miles on a treadmill.

Hi Rammy...Hi Michael...Hi nick...Hi everyone

Michael found me...I was trying to hide, but it didn't work. lol Kidding. I have been on and off working out, so sometimes, I feel guilty, and avoid this thread. I really shouldn't do that!

Rammy--what I had to do for a good long while with my foot problem...is the eliptical and spinning. (are you familiar with spinning?) I also got into weight lifting, and pilates. Which I discovered is quite effective. (I always knew weight lifting was, but never gave Pilates a chance)

I think if you try that a few times per week, you'll be in shape, while your foot is trying to heal. So sorry your foot is messed up--I can relate, and it's really difficult when you're on a roll, and then wham...you can't run...walk...etc...Even walking for me at a fast pace hurt my foot back then.

Anyways--praying for you to have a speedy recovery.

Thanks for the shout out, Michael... Hope everyone else is doing well?

Hey, Sharon, it's great to see you. Welcome back. Don't be a stranger, my friend. Remember, this is still your group. You're our founder.
