I'm a Buckeye fan, so I gotta vote for them. And I have to go for the one I was alive to see.

Re: Top ten greatest games in College Football
I pick #1 that was the biggest win and upset in Michigan football. What a way for Schembechler to start a ten year rivalry with Hayes.

Re: Top ten greatest games in College Football
How about those Fighting Saints? They won the championship game by a field goal in the last ten seconds. (Plus, this is their third straight year of winning it.) Yes, I know the Carroll College Saints are in the smaller college league, but it was a great game and I got to support my state.

Game of the Century
They don't call it the GOTC for nothing. 1971 Nebraska vs. Oklahoma will always be one of the best games ever, although I wasn't even born yet. The best game I've seen is the Nebraska vs. Miami Orange Bowl in 1984, even though my team lost. (Yes, I'm Husker biased).
My other Husker biases: 1995 Nebraska team was the most dominating college team in the past 30 years; Tommie Frazier should've won the Heisman that year; the Huskers were the dominant team of the 1990s (3 N.C.'s), although Florida St. is a close 2nd
Non-Husker bias: This year's team was terrible, and Joe Dailey will be benched next year; Callahan has 2 more years to turn this team around (at least bowl eligible and 8 game winner), or he will rightfully get fired

Re: Top ten greatest games in College Football
How can you miss the 1966 ND vs MSU game? It was the game of the century!
November 19, 1966
Notre Dame 10 - Michigan State 10
Win one for the Gipper it wasn't. When soliciting the thoughts of various media members and fans for the greatest game of all time, this one was mentioned in a surprising amount of the responses. In the history of college football, there might not have been a game with more of a feeling of emptiness and dissatisfaction than this one. If a tie is like kissing your sister, this chick looked like Beano Cook. The No. 1 ranked Irish and No. 2 ranked Spartans battled and bruised each other to no avail. Star Irish quarterback Terry Hanrattay was knocked out after getting crushed in the first quarter by Spartan defensive lineman Bubba Smith. Starting Notre Dame running back Nick Eddy was out entirely after hurting his shoulder getting off the train in East Lansing.
Even without their stars, the Irish found themselves tied 10-10 with the ball on their 30-yard line with time to go for the touchdown, or at least a game-winning field goal. But head coach Ara Parseghian elected to run the clock out and take the tie. Why? Excuse No. 1: The backup Irish quarterback Coley O Brien, a diabetic, was completely run down and couldnt throw. You'd think they could've found an apple for him to eat. Excuse No. 2: After being down 10-0, the Irish totally dominated the second half and didnt want to make a mistake and give the game away. Whatever. In the eyes of college football fans, the disappointment turned into contempt for the Irish for playing it so safe when Michigan State pulled out all the stops to try and win the game. The reality was that the tie gave the Irish their best shot at the national title. After throttling USC 51-0, Notre Dame won the national championship while Michigan State ended up second.
Historical Significance
These two teams were absolute monsters. Notre Dame gave up fourteen points in the season opening win over Purdue, ten points to Michigan State, and a total of fourteen points to its other seven opponents shutting out six of them. Michigan State was coming off a 10-1 1965 season only losing to UCLA by two points in the Rose Bowl in what was considered a major upset. After 1966, Spartan football fell off the map for a while going 3-7 in 1967. Fans were so disappointed in the outcome of this game that they were absolutely giddy when the Texas-Arkansas game of 1969 and the Nebraska-Oklahoma classic of 1971 lived up to the hype.

Re: Top ten greatest games in College Football
Nebraska vs Miami - 1995 Orange Bowl deserves some recognition.
Nebraska used 2 quarterbacks to prevail 24-17, the backup who missed time during the season with a collapsed lung (Brooke Berringer), and the No. 1 (Tommie Frazier) who missed 3/4 of the season with blood clots in his leg, playing in his first game in 3 months. It was a battle of 1 vs 3. Tom Osborne's "old, boring" offense was able to wear down and outman Miami to score 2 4th quarter td's to overcome a 17-9 3rd quarter deficit against a defense that included an all-star cast headed by Warren Sapp and Ray Lewis. The NU defense also came up big, shutting down the high power Miami offense the 4th quarter.
The comeback even included, quite appropriately, a converted 2-point conversion in the very same end zone where Tom Osborne lost a chance to win the NC vs Miami a decade earlier when a converted XP would have tied the game 31-31 and still allowed the Huskers to win the NC; one of the gutsiest calls of all time.
The '95 Orange Bowl was great to watch in and of itself, but had great added side stories, including a team that overcame great adversity to win, and a coach who had always done it the right way finally getting the title he deserverd

Re: Top ten greatest games in College Football
Have to go with Ohio State beating Miami in 2003. That game had everything!
Anyone who watched Tressel at Youngstown State in the 90's knew he had a chance to upset the mighty Hurricanes.
Totally outmanned position by position, the game plan was brilliant, and the player's execution was beyond anyone's imagination.
Go Bucks!
