Max, you are a witness to the faith for your "friends"!!!

Next time some moron makes fun of your family (which hopefully doesn't happen too much anymore!!) tell them

HEY!! Guess you just don't have enough LOVE in your house to make that many kids!!!

(You can just say it in your HEAD if you want....! )

But really, look at those kids who had rude things to say. I bet alot of them (Catholic, even) come from families with divorce, with infidelity, with insecurity. I teach in a Catholic school, and I know which kids are hardest on the other kids. The bully-types. They have absolutely miserable families. Their dads cheat on their moms, none of them ever go to Church, their moms cheat on their dads, they get divorced and remarry and badmouth each other.

I'm not excusing their talk or their behavior, but they REALLY are just jealous of you. I know that sounds like a cliche, but it is true. Take heart.

Jesus is so proud of your faith!!

Don't feel bad, Max. My husband, from Mexico, is one of 18 children. The older kids raised the younger ones. They all turned out solid, hard working citizens. It's single kids who seem to be most self centered.
Kristalyn is right, your classmates were just jealous. You'll run into those people again, don't let them bother you. Large families have something to offer that we're losing in this country.

Only one, and I wish I had had more. If you're on the fence - go for it!

One beautiful gift from God!

For others of you who have one, do you find it awkward to be a Catholic family with one child? We are definately in the minority in our parish. I've had people say to me "that's not very Catholic of you". Come to think of it, that was from a Protestant! LOL. Anyway, I sometimes feel like we're not viewed as a "real family" because we have one child. Anyone else get this?

We have 1 3yo boy, whom we love dearly.

We would love to have more, but God has not chosen to bless us with any yet.

For those who do not have as many children as you would like, is it stressful? I try to surrender myself to God's wll for us, but every month my wife is disappointed when she is not pregnant. It is particularly hard when we see others who seem like they don't even want the kids they have getting blessed with more.

As to Patricia's question - Anyone who knows us knows we are very open to having more children.
"that's not very Catholic of you". - How horrible to say to someone.
Anyone who said something like that to my wife would find out how much more "uncatholic" I could be as they picked themselves up off the floor and started trying to find all their teeth.

My wife and I have three outside the womb and one inside the womb so I voted 4.

For us, we are very satisfied with our lives. I would've loved more, it just didn't work out that way, but I've reached a point where it's OK. Part of it is, quite frankly, our own fault. We "waited"...until it was almost too late. When were first married we were Christmas and Easter Catholics. Since we've come back to the faith, strengthened our marriage and developed a deeper understanding of what is important in our lives we tried to have another. Now we're both almost 40 and past that possibility. Anyway, I regret not having children in our younger years, when maybe it would've been possible to have a larger family. But we've also come to love some of the advantages of having one. Since this is God's will for us, (both of our making and of his, actually) then we have chosen to embrace the life we have. One can be ONEderful!

But, to address your question...I've spent a lot of time on Only Child message boards. Stressful is not the right word. It can be excruciating for someone who wants to have more children and can't.

3... I'd have many more but my Wife had all 3 c-sections. I'd rather not kill her in the process. But the matter is in the hands of God.
